ST. LOUIS – October 3, 2012 - The St. Louis Cardinals are encouraging local businesses, schools and other organizations to help kids in our community while supporting the team’s quest for a 12th World Championship (#12in12) by participating in Cardinals RED for Kids (#RED4kids). RED stands for Rally Everyone Day.  Piloted during the 2011 postseason, Cardinals RED for Kids is the team’s version of an office “dress down” day in which participating organizations make a donation to Cardinals Care in exchange for the opportunity to sport their Cardinals clothes at work or school. Since last year, Cardinals Care has raised nearly $15,000 through RED for Kids. “This is a great way to show your support for the team and help kids in our community,” said Michael Hall, Vice President of Community Relations and Executive Director of Cardinals Care. “We hope to rally everyone to support the Cardinals as we look for our 12th World Championship in 2012.” To participate, fans should go to cardinal...

Looking at the Cardinals playoff path ahead

Now that the ten post-season teams are named and slotted, it is time to look at the upcoming schedule as it affects and may affect the St. Louis Cardinals. Obviously, winning Friday’s wild card game at Atlanta is mandatory to continue. Because of the compressed schedule with the second wild card being added this year, the Division Series will be played in a one-time-only 2-3 format...

Cardinals Injury News: Lance Berkman Pinch-Hits for St. Louis

When St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman underwent surgery on his knee in early September, it appeared that his season, and perhaps career, were over. However, Berkman was able to return for the Cardinals last night as a pinch-hitter. Manager Mike Matheny made the move as a gesture to Berkman, who is likely in his last season with the Cardinals. The veteran slugger...

St. Louis Cardinals clinch playoff spot: will attempt to defend World Series title

There have been some big changes in St. Louis since the Cardinals won the World Series last year with slugger Albert Pujols leaving the team as a free agent and manager Tony La Russa retiring. However, the club will still have the opportunity to defend its World Series title as they made the playoffs on Oct. 2 by clinching one of the National League’s wild card...

This Day Is Actually Here?

And then there was 1. A single win from the Cardinals or a loss from the Dodgers puts the defending World Series Champs back into the 2012 tournament. It’s been an exhausting experience for everyone. Remember that Albert Pujols guy? I guess it’s true that time heals all wounds, because back in April and May we were watching his floundering like a hawk, reveling in...

Lohse will be Cardinals' wild-card starter despite postseason woes

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny relied more on Kyle Lohse's success this season than his past postseason failures when he named Lohse as his starting pitcher for Friday's one-game National League wild-card playoff against the Atlanta Braves. Lohse is 16-3, the best winning percentage of any National League starter, and his 2.86 ERA is fifth best in the league....

Lohse finally gets chance in spotlight

ATLANTA Snubbed from the All-Star team on multiple occasions and lost among rotations featuring Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright, Kyle Lohse could be considered one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball. Hell get the chance in the spotlight come Friday. The Cardinals have tabbed Lohse to start their one-game, winner-take-all wild card showdown against the Atlanta Braves...

Cardinals clinch wild card, ready to defend title

ST. LOUIS -- The debut of a first year manager and the departure of one of the greatest players in franchise history weren't enough to keep the defending World Series champions out of a playoff spot. Despite losing 3-1 to the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, the Cardinals clinched the National League's second wild card spot about two hours later when the Los Angeles Dodgers lost...

At Least Missouri Loves Yadi

Yadier Molina has had a fan-*******-tastic 2012 season.  Hell, he's been so good that we might have to re-evaluate just how good Pujols was in 2006 and 2011. Maybe it was Molina that was the real MVP of the past several seasons? Anyway, here's the latest ESPN SportsNation poll. At least Missouri appreicates greatness.

Cards, Miller finish regular season strongly

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated Cincinnati in game 162 behind Shelby Miller’s first MLB start and now look ahead to Friday’s wild card game in Atlanta.

The Cardinals Make The Playoffs: PESSIMISM

The Cardinals are in the playoffs?  Does a one game Wild Card game even count as the “The Playoffs”? You think that Ted Williams or Stan Musial would have been spraying champagne all over each other buttholes because they got a chance to have a chance to make it to the NLCS? Me neither. But here we are. Heading into a half-sold Turner Field for a insta-game...

Cardinals clinch baseball's last postseason berth

Rather than spraying champagne in every direction, the defending World Series champions talked about holding a subdued party if they squeezed into the postseason. When it finally happened, the St. Louis Cardinals just couldn't help themselves. First-year manager Mike Matheny, wearing a uniform top over an undershirt that was soaked and aromatic from the bubbly that flowed,...

Reds deny Cardinals, keep magic number at 1

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Mat Latos won his fourth straight decision to finish the regular season and Scott Rolen homered off Chris Carpenter, helping the Cincinnati Reds keep the St. Louis Cardinals' postseason plans on hold with a 3-1 victory Tuesday night. The Cardinals' magic number for clinching the second NL wild card remained at one with a game to go, and they were left in...

Cards clinch wild card tie with win over Reds

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Jaime Garcia homered off Bronson Arroyo and pitched into the seventh inning, helping the St. Louis Cardinals clinch at least a tie for the second NL wild card and spoil Dusty Baker's return from a mini-stroke with a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night. The defending World Series champions have won 11 of 14 and led the Los Angeles Dodgers, playing...

Cardinals-Reds preview

(AP) -- While they didn't find out until well after losing their last game, the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals are officially headed back to the playoffs. With both teams looking to pick up steam, the Cardinals wrap up the regular season against Homer Bailey and the NL Central champion Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium. Though it could...
