In 2004, the last pick in all 8 of my full season fantasy baseball teams was none other than Oliver Perez. Finishing with 239 K's he was well worth that last pick. Then in 2005, he was a huge bust. This season expectations of him were much lower, but there were still many of us were believed in both WHIP-killers Daniel Cabrera and Olly.
Mr. Cabrera is now back in the big leagues. He's had two solid games including a shutout against the Jays. And between those two good games, he got blown up for 7 ER while walking 5 in Boston.
So now back to Olly. With Pedro and Glavine possibly missing significant time, the Mets could very possible call Perez up from AAA Norfolk Tides, where he is 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA in his last two starts, giving up just six hits in 13 innings. How odd would it be if the Mets stretch run rotation was: El Duque, Traschel, Maine, and Perez. None of these guys began the season in the Mets rotation, and now they're being asked to carry the team to the postseason? So keep an eye out for Olly's call up, especially if Dave Williams struggles on Thursday.
