Grading The Mets: Catcher

Behind the plate, the Mets are going to look basically the same as last year. Met's fans are hoping Schneider will improve upon his hitting this year (.257, 9 HR, 38 RBI). Schneider is one of the better defensive catchers in the league - and strong defense up the middle is prevalent among championship teams. He is also is known to call a good game.There has been much speculation this spring on the Mets finding a replacement backup catcher, but Ramon Castro will once again fill that role this year. Castro came close to equaling Schneider's numbers in almost a third of the at bats (.245, 7 HR, 24 RBI). Unfortunately, when given the chance to catch everyday, his hitting suffered. If either Castro or Schneider get injured, or the Mets decide to carry a third catcher, Robinson Cancel will get the call up from AAA.
