Now, I will admit that typically we don't do a lot with baseball here at Walker-Sports, mainly because no one here is a big baseball fan. But when we received news on Friday that one of the all time greats in baseball history was ready to hang it up, we knew it was big news. Earlier today from the Bellagio Casino and Hotel Greg Maddux announced to a crowded ballroom that he was ready to retire from professional baseball after 23 seasons.
"I really just came out here today to say thank you. I appreciate everything this game has given me. It's going to be hard to walk away obviously, but it's time. I have a family now that I need to spend some more time with. I still think I can play the game, but not as well as I would like to, so it's time to say goodbye." Maddux said as he addressed the crowd.
There is no doubt that the next time we see Greg Maddux in a press conference it will be to announce he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Maddux leaves with four consecutive NL Cy Young Awards (1992-95) and a 3.16 ERA, especially impressive in the steroid era. He ranks eighth on the career wins list with 355 wins, giving him one more victory than Roger Clemons
