The Tribe Daily:
So here we are with the Press Conference News.. Not much difference from what we heard on STO yesterday in the interview. But I'll go ahead and point out the rest.
One thing that was not brought up was the news on Travis Hafner.
Hafner's shoulder is not where they expected it to be. So arthroscopic surgery may be needed.
Still, not for sure, they could take the route they are currently on and just let it rest.
I say, go for Surgery, he'll be ready for 2009 from all indications and get things fixed. Do it and do it now if its a possibility.
You can now listen to the press conference and read quotes, here.
*Starting pitching: "When you get to the list of areas I'd like to improve, the area I feel least comfortable with is our upper-level starting pitching. It's the area, as we plan our big league club, that will be among our two or three biggest holes.
More definitive than he was with Drennan if you ask me. Least-comfortable.. Improvement.. There will be a starting pitching addition this offseason, maybe two.. I'm very pleased with that.
Chances of re-signing Sabathia, Casey Blake or Paul Byrd: "I wouldn't close the door on anybody. Casey certainly has a natural fit on our club next year. ... Byrdie still has the ability to pitch effectively at the back end of the rotation, but if we look at the back end of the rotation it's probably going to be the guys you saw pitch here this year."
I don't want Blake or Byrd back, it just is my opinion and I don't think they do either. Of course we want CC back, but that won't happen. He said he'll touch base with Sabathia's agents, but we know how that will go.
More Luis Isaac: "That being said, the door has never been closed on Louie coming back. He made it clear to me, he wants to look for another big-league job. If that doesn't happen, and he still wants to work in some other capacity, he'll call me."
Mahhhaaa.. So, we'll see where this goes but it seems as if it isn't as bad as we thought with Isaac and the organization, but you never know, that's Shapiro talking. Some team will want Luis Isaac, I can't see why not.
No Manny: Manny Ramirez, a potential free agent, won't be returning to Cleveland this winter.
Pardon my french.. But no sh*t..
He made it clear, starting pitcher, hopefully at the top, a MLB experienced bullpen arm (key nothing specific on closer), and an infielder.
With that... I will put it at that and move into speculation mode.
Within the next few days, I'll be unveiling the offseason chart. Crucial to our coverage here as we move forward to the Hot-Stove League. I wanna tighten it up a little bit more. We'll see where it goes from here in the next few days...
