In an effort to stay close to our roots, the staff at Padres Public, will offer-up a haiku each Monday (sorry – I’m late) to describe the previous week in Padres Baseball. Restricting our feelings to 3 lines and 17 syllables to describe a week of play is a massive undertaking, but (un) fortunately, we are more than up to the task.
The Padres had a weird week. They were swept by the Dodgers but had two losses by scores of 2-1. Then they took the series against the Giants two games to one and followed it up with a sweep of the Rockies. Weird, wild, stuff.
So weird, we wrote some haikus about it. Like to hear ‘em? Hear they go.

Giants series won.
Also, Rockies series sweep.
Too bad both teams suck.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today released the club’s schedule for the 2014 regular season. The team will open the season at Petco Park on Monday, March 31, beginning a three-game series and a three-game homestand against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
On Friday, Cameron Maybin underwent successful surgery on his right wrist to repair a torn TFCC ligament in his wrist. If rehabilitation goes as planned, he should be able and ready at full strength to start the 2014 season. That’s the good news.
The bad news comes in waves. First, it’s now been 2 full years since Maybin suffered his initial injury on the wrist. He has now essentially...
With ten more games in the books for our San Diego Padres the time has come to revisit the poll we began over one month ago. The predictions for the Padres over the remaining 50 games were not very promising then and when the team went 2-8 through games 113-122 suspicions about a disastrous finish seemed to be confirmed. Or were they?
The Padres turned things around during their...
Every month, MadFriars looks at the best performers across the Padres minor league affiliates. As the minor league season wraps up, we take one final look at all six affiliates to highlight the players who made the biggest contributions in August.
Reymond Fuentes August was one of the best months any Padre farmhand posted all year. The 22-year-old outfielder had a torrid...
Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after an afternoon in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.
Andrew Cashner has been really dialed in during his last four or so starts, this time working into the 8th inning and striking out 7 Phillies on his way to the win. Chase Headley mixed in some offense and just like that the Padres...
LAKE ELSINORE - In 2009, James Needy seemed to have the world by the tail. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound right-handed pitcher out of Santana High School had just been drafted by the hometown Padres and had a full ride to the University of San Diego.
I'm looking forward to playing baseball for San Diego or San Diego, Needy told the San Diego Union-Tribune at the time
I have a lot of...
The Padres offense came alive yesterday at Citizens Bank Park behind a strong outing by Andrew Cashner. Cashner went 7 2/3 innings pitched, allowed only 4 hits, 2 runs, and one walk while striking out seven. The offense provided more than enough run support as the Padres came out on top 8-2. Today, the Pads send Eric Stults to the mound to face fellow southpaw Cliff Lee of the Phillies...
Dana, I’m what the world considers to be a phenomenally successful man, and I’ve failed much more than I’ve succeeded. And each time I fail, I get my people together, and I say, “Where are we going?” And it starts to get better.” – Calvin Traeger, Sports Night

The San Diego Padres took the right approach to hitting against Cliff Lee. They just couldn't connect often enough.
Eric Stults pitched six effective innings, but the Padres managed just five hits against Lee in a 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.
''Our approach to Lee is to swing the bats,'' manager Bud Black said. ''He's...

Looking to extend a hot stretch just like their opponent is, the San Diego Padres likely have to generate the run support they've lacked in Andrew Cashner's recent starts to continue theirs.
Pitching well despite being winless in more than a month, Cashner tries to help visiting San Diego win its fourth straight Tuesday night while keeping the Philadelphia Phillies from...
