Adam Rubin confirmed Ted Burg's report that the Mets are set to sign Jerry Hairston Jr to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. Because of his ties to Alderson and Co. it's not a surprise that they are signing him, what is a surprise is that they signed Harris or Hairston after signing Harris. Basically the two players are the similar aside from which side of the plate they hit from and are competing for the same position. Hairston is a 34 y/o right handed hitting utility player who has played every position except catcher, he's a lifetime .257 hitter and last year had a career high 10 home runs. Adam Rubin speculated that the real loser in this siting may not be Harris but more Nick Evans, who seems to be getting squeezed out of the bench and is out of options...
