A “handful” of teams have contacted the San Diego Padres to discuss a possible trade for right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher, according to a team source close to Dan Hayes of the North County Times.
The Padres designated the 24-year-old Gallagher for assignment on Thursday. They have 10 days to trade, waive or release the pitcher.
One baseball source says Gallagher has value because of the “buzz from his prospect days.”
Gallagher was 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA in 15 appearances for the Padres in 2010.
