Hanley Ramirez may have been a problem in Miami, but he was not the problem. If he was truly a malcontent in the clubhouse and was hurting the team off the field, the Marlins did the right thing in getting rid of him. On Thursday, Marlins team president David Samson told MLB.com the following when asked why Ramirez was traded to the Dodgers. “We just realized we couldn’t win with him,” Samson said. “It was that simple.” When asked about Samson’s comment, Hanley made a pretty good point. “Now are they winning without me?” he asked according to the LA Times. “I don’t think it’s one guy. If it was me, you know, OK. I had a lot of good memories there. They gave me the opportunity to play in the big leagues.” Ramirez had his fair share of high points and low points in Florida, but he wasn’t the sole reason for either winning or losing. The Marlins had a winning percentage of .464 before trading Hanley this season. Without him, they have a record of 18-28 — or a .383 winning percentage.

Josh Beckett Summed Up The Dodgers 2012 Season To Date Perfectly Last Night

While utterly terrible and pathetic, Josh Beckett “grounding” into a 9-3 putout sorta summarizes the 2012 Dodgers season so far quite well when you think about it. The apparent sharp single into right represents the team’s fast start, Beckett’s horrid wheels represents the team treading water with mediocre players and miracle replacement production for a ...

Cruz's blast keeps LA's playoff hopes alive

LOS ANGELES -- The heat lingered over Dodger Stadium Friday night much like the lingering Dodgers slump. On an unseasonably warm night, Los Angeles wanted to know only one thing: Are the Dodgers still in the postseason race or are they out? Entering Friday night, the Dodgers were just 6-12 since what is now simply known as The Trade that sent Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl...

Lilly to undergo shoulder surgery

Thats officially it for left-hander Ted Lilly this season, not that the announcement that hell have season-ending surgery next Friday came as a shock to anyone. Lilly hasnt pitched since May 23, his sore shoulder never responding to conservative treatment. Now hes scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder, in what Dodgers trainer Sue Falsone said should not lead...

Dodgers tighten up wild-card race

Luis Cruz wasn't a significant piece of the Los Angeles Dodgers' roster until third baseman Jerry Hairston Jr. went down for the rest of the season in mid-August with inflammation in his left hip. Since then, the four-year veteran has done more than his share to help keep his team in the postseason hunt. Cruz greeted St. Louis reliever Edwin Mujica with a first-pitch, three...

Report: Dodgers, unfortunately, sign Ned Colletti to long-term extension

When Mark Walter, Magic Johnson, Stan Kasten and Co. bought the Dodgers in May, many assumed (hoped?) it would spell the end of Ned Colletti's tenure as general manager. But here we are, four-plus months later and the much maligned Dodgers' GM was given a contract extension. Certainly not what I wanted or expected, up until last week when scuttlebutt began about the Dodgers...

Cards fall to Dodgers Saturday

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Luis Cruz came up with his second clutch hit in two nights, a tying two-out RBI double in the ninth inning, and pinch-hitter Juan Rivera followed with a run-scoring single to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night. Jason Motte (4-5) came in trying to protect a 3-2 lead for Jaime Garcia and retired his first...

Lee homers as Buehrle, Marlins beat Reds

MIAMI (AP) -- Carlos Lee homered and drove in three runs and the Miami Marlins beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 on Saturday night. Mark Buehrle (13-12) allowed four runs on seven hits over 7 2-3 innings to improve to 4-1 in his last six starts. Jose Reyes had three hits and also drove in a run for Miami. Johnny Cueto (17-9) suffered his third straight loss and failed to last five innings...

Dodgers extend GM Ned Colletti

The Dodgers and Ned Colletti have agree to a contract extension, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. The new deal will be for either two or three years. Colletti's current deal included a mutual option for next season. Colletti is best known for the great signings of Jason Schmidt, Juan Pierre, Andrew Jones that didn't work out, along with working out trades for Andre Ethier...

Cueto suffers third straight loss as Marlins win

MIAMI (AP) -- Carlos Lee homered and drove in three runs and the Miami Marlins beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 on Saturday night. Mark Buehrle (13-12) allowed four runs on seven hits over 7 2-3 innings to improve to 4-1 in his last six starts. Jose Reyes had three hits and also drove in a run for Miami. The Phils increase their present winning streak to seven straight, as they sweep their second straight three-game series as they defeat the Marlins, 3-1.

The Phils end their present home stand with a two-series sweep as they sweep the fish, 3-1. The Marlins ended a 0-0 pitchers’ duel by taking the lead in the sixth as, with two men on, and with two men out, Carlos Lee hits an RBI single, knocking in Donovan Solano, who had earlier reached first base on Jimmy Rollins’ fielding error, then was safe at second base on Cliff Lee...

Don Mattingly set to return next season

The Dodgers are clinging to hope, that they can claim the last wild card spot, as they sit only one game back of the Cardinals. But as GM Ned Colletti begins to prepare for next season and beyond, he told Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles among others that manager Don Mattingly will return next season. Mattingly has one year left on his deal, but reports have surfaced that once Colletti...
