Bryce Harper launched two long home runs, including a tiebreaking drive in the eighth inning, and also doubled Saturday to lead the Washington Nationals over the New York Mets 7-6.
Adam LaRoche and Ian Desmond homered for the Nationals on Bark in the Park day at Citi Field. Fans paid $35 for tickets in the second deck in right field, and brought their dogs for $10.
After the game, Nationals manager Davey Johnson said third baseman Ryan Zimmerman was being placed on the 15-day disabled list because of persistent tightness in his left hamstring. Zimmerman had an MRI earlier in the day.
Harper, who has a young chocolate Labrador retriever named Swag, hit a two-run homer to right-center in the third. He then hit the first pitch from Josh Edgin (0-1) in the eighth even farther and harder to right-center for his seventh home run.
The 20-year-old All-Star has four multihomer games in not quite a full year in the majors. Harper walked in his other plate appearance and is hitting .371 th...
BEST OF MAXIM
Just another day at the office for Bryce Harper on Saturday: 3-for-3, 2 home runs, 3 RBI, including that monster go-ahead home run in the eighth to bail out the Nationals against the Mets. According to hittracker, the ball travelled 433 feet. Here's Davey:
"Harper was amazing today. He crushed a couple balls. What a day he had. That last one he hit off (Mets left-hander...
Nationals slugger Bryce Harper took to Twitter to bemoan the fact that the team auctioned off his game-worn jersey from opening day.
Washington Nationals superstar Bryce Harper had a brilliant game against the Miami Marlins on April 1 to open up his 2013 regular season campaign. He tore the cover off the ball, going 2-4, with the two hits both being home runs, jump-starting a season that by all appearances will be a phenomenal one for the second-year outfielder.
The jersey that Harper was wearing that particular...
Bryce Harper was supposed to be a big deal when he was drafted by the Washington Nationals out of junior college. There have been plenty of athletes that were thought to be the next big thing when they were coming through the ranks in high school and/or college (or junior college).
So in that respect Harper is nothing special-- except he is actually backing it up.
Nationals slugger Bryce Harper was ‘less than enthused’ about the Nationals decision to sell his opening day jersey online for $13,025 without even asking him.
Harper took to twitter to bash his team for the selling his sweaty…musty…dirty…jersey? Ummm Bryce…why didn’t you just take it home with you?
They just take my jersey away from me and don’t ask if I want...

Bryce Harper launched home runs number 6 and 7 on Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday afternoon at Citi Field, the Nationals needed a little something extra to slip by the Mets. Gio Gonzalez imploded, Ryan Zimmerman headed to the disabled list, and Bryce Harper hit two home runs, the second being a mammoth shot that won the game for the Nationals 7-6 (and won us yet another parlay bet...
I had the privilege of catching a game at Citi Field this weekend between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals with some of my friends from Rising Apple. It was a fun day at the park, even if the Amazins weren’t able to complete a comeback, losing to the defending NL East Champions, 7-6.
One of the bright spots for the Nationals was outfielder Bryce Harper, who went 3-for...
Ryan Zimmerman was a scratch for the second consecutive game today, and he's getting an MRI on his hamstring. Never a good sign for the Nats franchise third baseman. The game itself was a roller coaster ride of a game throughout on the way to a Nats 7-6 victory.
The Nats offense was able to get off to a quick start. Ian Desmond hit his third homer of the year on a first pitch...
It's finally here. The Nats Talk On The Go podcast has hit its first real milestone, and we've commemorated it with a really, really long episode. We were forced to take last week off, so we had a lot to discuss around the Nats recent struggles and triumphs. We talk about pitching, defense, and heap praise upon Bryce Harper, Ross Detwiler, and Jordan Zimmermann. There'...
