PHOENIX It is only a small stretch to believe that we might have seen Chris Young's last start in a Diamondbacks home uniform Tuesday. It is far from a certainty, of course, but it cannot be ignored. When Young was forced to leave the D-backs' 3-2 victory over San Diego after aggravating his right quadriceps injury two pitches into the game Tuesday, the possibility hung in the air. For one, it took Young 14 days to return to the lineup after suffering the injury Sept. 3 in San Francisco, and the regular season has 15 days left to run. In the greater context, both Young and Justin Upton said last week they believe the D-backs will trade from their outfield strength this offseason because of the depth not only here but on the way expect A.J. Pollock to arrive Wednesday after winning the Triple-A championship with Class AAA Reno on Tuesday night. All-Stars Young and Upton would generate a lot of interest if they hit the market, Upton more so than Young, and rookie Adam ...

Chris Young Injury: Diamondbacks CF Exits in 1st With Leg Injury

The Arizona Diamondbacks may have lost their center fielder again.  Chris Young, after battling a hamstring injury almost all season long, left after the first play in the top of the first inning last night.  He was tracking down a long fly ball out off the bat of the San Diego Padres' Everth Cabrera when he seemed to pull up with pain in his leg.  He exited the...

Bloomquist nominated for Clemente Award

PHOENIX Infielder Willie Bloomquist was named the Arizona Diamondbacks' 2012 nominee for the 11th annual Roberto Clemente Award. Bloomquist is one of the 30 Club finalists for the annual award, which recognizes a Major League Baseball player who best represents the game of baseball through positive contributions on and off the field, including sportsmanship and community involvement...

Bauer could be back; Bloomquist iffy

PHOENIX Trevor Bauer might return to the Diamondbacks this season and Willie Bloomquist might not, although nothing is definitive in either case. Bauer made his final minor league start for Reno in the Triple-A championship game against Pawtucket on Tuesday, and the D-backs were interested enough that general manager Kevin Towers caught a red-eye flight to the East Coast to attend...

Diamondbacks call up Pollock, Jacobs from Reno

The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled outfielder A.J. Pollock and selected the contract of infielder Mike Jacobs from Triple-A Reno. The team also designated outfielder Cole Gillespie for assignment. The moves came one day after Reno defeated Pawtucket for the Triple-A championship. Pollock batted .318 with 52 RBIs and 21 stolen bases for Reno. He appeared in 22 games in stints...

Pesky Eaton keys D-backs' victory over Padres

PHOENIX Disruptor, OK. Nuisance, fine. Diamondbacks leadoff hitter Adam Eaton embraces any descriptor in the thorn-in-the side family. "That's a compliment to me. Being a pest. Being annoying. Being a dirt bag. Any of those is fine with me. I just try to get on base, score runs. Anything. It doesn't matter," Eaton said. Eaton reached base for the 11th time...

D-backs must continue winning ways

The Arizona Diamondbacks' struggles with the San Diego Padres this season have proved costly, but they're hoping it's not too late to turn things around. After a rare win over San Diego in this series opener, the Diamondbacks will go for their third straight victory Wednesday night when they continue this three-game set at Chase Field. Arizona (73-74) had lost eight...

Suspended a year ago, Jacobs is back in majors with D-backs

Champagne was not the only wet stuff Mike Jacobs rubbed from his eyes Tuesday. Jacobs was overcome with emotion when he was told in a meeting with Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers, Class AAA Reno manager Brett Butler and D-backs director of player development Mike Bell after Reno's 10-3 victory over Pawtucket in the Triple-A championship game that he was being...

Kennedy, D-backs open big series with Padres

With the Diamondbacks and Padres on the fringe of the playoff race, it's safe to say one of these teams will no longer be there when this three-game series concludes. The visiting Padres are further back in the hunt for the second wild-card spot in the NL, but they may have a good chance to make up some ground starting Tuesday night considering their recent performances against...

Diamondbacks 3, Padres 2

Ian Kennedy gave up one run in eight innings for his 14th victory, Miguel Montero drove in two runs with two doubles and the Arizona Diamondbacks finally got a home win over the San Diego Padres, 3-2 on Tuesday night. San Diego was 6-0 in Arizona this season before dropping the series opener. Kennedy (14-11) overcame a 30-pitch first inning, scattering seven hits. A 21-game winner...

Diamondbacks 6, Padres 2

Adam Eaton tripled to spark a three-run fifth inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 on Wednesday night. Dan Wheeler had an RBI triple, and Miguel Montero and Paul Goldschmidt added run-scoring doubles for the Diamondbacks, who have won three straight. Arizona remained 4 1-2 games behind St. Louis for the second NL wild card. Arizona starter...

D-backs look to finish sweep of Padres

Reaching the postseason is largely out of their control, but the Arizona Diamondbacks have a good chance to move above .500 for the first time in nearly a month with a sweep of their pesky division rival. The Diamondbacks will go for their fourth straight win Thursday night and hand the Padres' Clayton Richard his first loss against them. Arizona has won eight of 12, but is...

Padres-Diamondbacks Preview

With the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres on the fringe of the playoff race, it's safe to say one of these teams will no longer be there when this three-game series concludes. The visiting Padres are further back in the hunt for the second wild-card spot in the NL, but they may have a good chance to make up some ground starting Tuesday night considering their recent...
