The New York Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres on Thursday night, 11-5:

Jeremy Hefner started for the Mets, allowing six runs on nine hits over 3 2/3 innings of work:

Following a 68-minute raid delay, Hefner trotted back out to the mound to start the third inning.  Eveth Cabrera greeted Hefner with a lead off double to left. After a Eric Stults ground out to short, the Padres rattled off four straight hits, three of which were doubles, leading to four San Diego runs.

OH MANNY: The Padres added three more runs in the top of the seventh off Manny Acosta.  With runners on first and third and no-outs, Chase Headley ripped an RBI single down the right field line before Andy Parrino plated two more runs with a single into center.  Acosta has now allowed 12 earned runs over his last five appearances, spanning six innings:

THIS IS JUST GETTING RIDICULOUS NOW: Seriously. This. Is. Insane.  David Wright went 3-for5 with a two-run homer in the sixth lifting his MLB leading average back over .400 in the process.

It was Wright’s 18th multi-hit game of the year and he has now reached base in 38 of his 41 games played, with an amazing 60 hits over that span.

PINCH-HIT KNOCK:Ike Davis was brought on to pinch hit for Vinny Rottino (0-for-3) with two men on in the bottom of the eighth inning.  After a passed ball moved the runners into scoring position, Davis ripped a two-run single into right field.  It was just Ike’s sixth hit in 63 Citi Field at-bats. Prior to tonight’s contest, manager Terry Collins told reporters that Ike would not be heading to Triple-A Buffalo anytime soon, saying:

This game’s all about confidence. It’s all about believing in yourself. When you’re going through a slump like Ike is, you lose that confidence, you lose how you feel about things. It wears on you. He’s not sleeping well. So I thought one of the things we’d try to do is make sure he understands we believe in him. We trust him. He’s an outstanding player. We told him he’s the first baseman.”

THERE’S ALWAYS TOMORROW: The Mets will continue their four-game set with the Padres tomorrow night at 7:05 pm in Citi Field with Dillon Gee taking on Anthony Bass:
