ESPN’s Bruce Levine is reporting that the former Mets pitcher Aaron 
Heilman could soon be on his way to the Chicago Cubs.
Levine reports that the a deal is in the works that would send Heilman to the Cubs in exchange for infielder Ronny Cedeno and a pitcher.
This should come as no surprise, as the Seattle Mariners, who acquired Heilman in the December trade that sent J.J. Putz to the Mets, have state numerous times that they were open to trading the struggling reliever.
Also, if you remember, the Cubs proposed a trade with the Mets early on in the offseason that would’ve sent Jason Marquis to the Mets in exchange for Heilman.
Where Heilman would fit in with the Cubs is unknown. If the Cubs acquire Cy Young award winner, Jake Peavy, a stint in the bullpen is likely for Heilman. However, if the Cubs are not able to obtain Peavy then Heilman could fit in at the end of their rotation.
If the Cubs do trade for Aaron Heilman the September matchup between the Cubs and the Mets at Citi Field just got a whole lot more interesting.
