It's not the greatest morning for Phillies fans. We needed to see a win, a confirmation that the series in Toronto was a step in the right direction. But despite playing a decent, close game with the Braves, the Phils gave it up late, with Ryan Madson allowing the tying run to score and Chan Ho Park giving up the go-ahead. On top of the shaky bullpen work, Jimmy Rollins failed to emerge from his slump after returning from his benching, going 0-5 with two strikeouts and not much in the way of inspiring plate discipline. He is now hitless in his last 24 at bats.
Lowe was clearly in some temporary pain and discomfort, having a little trouble just walking it off. The next batter he faced was Chase Utley, who crushed the ball to the right field stands. After the top half of the inning, it didn't look like Lowe would return. He was grimacing in the dugout, and generally looking like someone who had been hit in the rear end with a baseball at a high rate of speed. But he did return for an inning before giving way to the bullpen.
Speaking of which, the other great highlight of the night was watching Mike Gonzalez do his little rocking dance on the mound, clearly trying to get a rhythm while throwing off that of the hitter, only to have Big John Mayberry Jr. say "Rock this..." and shoot a flare into the right field stands. Up next, Pedro Feliz went yard. The two jacks were the first homers hit by righthanded hitters off of Gonzalez this season.
Bonus: Did You Know? Sarge Matthews' brother is a cameraman for TBS.
