No doubt that you’ve all seen or heard of the defensive woes of Ruben Tejada to start the season. This is frontpage news. The shortstop committed his fourth error yesterday. One person on twitter actually told me it was time to bring up Wilfredo Tovar. I thought he was pulling my leg, but he was serious. That’s not happening and there’s a good chance that Tovar might be worse offensively AND defensively. It was only two years ago when the masses were putting Tejada’s defense above any Mets infielder including Jose Reyes. Everybody calm down. Players can slump in the field as easily as they do at the plate… Ask the captain, David Wright. Nobody knows that better than him. Apparently, all that Ike Davis needed to get his season going was a good clean shave. After taking a razor to his grizzled face, Davis put his his 1-for-16 slump in his rearview shaving mirror and responded responded with two hits and a walk. Why do bloggers always think they know the cause for a player’s slump? Lat...

When Can We Expect To See Rafael Montero Make Mets Debut?

Tommy K. asks… When do you think we’ll see Rafael Montero in Citi Field? Joe D. replies… Good question. The organization is very high on Montero and not too many 22-year old pitching prospects from A-Ball get invited to spring training and stick around as long as he did. Montero needs a little work mechanically and was already working on a few things at the minor league side...

Unusual call stifles Marlins against Mets

NEW YORK (AP) -- John Buck drove in four runs and was part of a rare umpire's call that helped the New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 7-3 on Saturday. Collin Cowgill homered, David Wright got three hits and slumping Ike Davis added a pair of singles to lift the Mets on a brisk afternoon at Citi Field. New York led 3-2 in the seventh inning moments before plate umpire Jim...

A Running Folly

For as much as John Buck was a huge factor in Saturday's 7-3 victory over the Marlins, so was Juan Pierre. And their paths collided on multiple occasions during the game ... between Pierre bobbling Buck's two run double, and Pierre's baffling interference call when he collided with Buck well into foul territory after scoring a run, this was the kind of game that makes...

Early Impressions Of Mets Aren’t Bad

It’s always fun to examine the first impressions of a new season. For example, it is safe to say John Buck will not finish with 292 RBI. However, you might get interesting odds if you believe the 3-2 Mets will continue their pace and outplay the 1-4 Yankees. That being said, the measuring stick for success or failure is their starting pitching. If they get innings it keeps them...
