Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing two games because of inflammation in his left knee.

Votto went 2-for-4. But he ran noticeably slower.

"It's not 100 percent," he said. "But I can play. It's good enough to go without causing anymore trouble."

After 80 games, anyone who plays as much as Votto is dinged up. The two games were the only ones he's missed all year.

"The later you get in the season the less chance you have of anybody being 100 percent," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "Anybody who's played every day is not going to be 100 percent until November -- if then."

Votto danced around the question about whether he'll play in the All-Star Game.

"I'm going to go in the office and tell (Baker) I'm available (for Tuesday)," Votto said.

The Reds' offense revolves around Votto. He is hitting .352 with 33 doubles, 14 home runs and 47 RBI. He leads the National League in doubles, on-base percentage (.471), slugging percentage (.632), walks (60) and extra-base hits (47).
