PLAYERS: Kyle Seager
TEAMS: Seattle Mariners
If Kyle Seager of the Seattle Mariners could play all of his games on the road, he would be a beast. But since he plays half of his games in Safeco Field, he is merely a very good player and one of the young bright spots on his team. Most players prefer to play at home. Most players feel more comfortable at a place they play half of their games. But for Kyle Seager, home is a miserable place that could ultimately cost him money. To give you an idea of how different a hitter Kyle Seager is at home, you only need to look at his splits and wOBA. If Seager played all of his games on the road, his wOBA of .389 while on the road would place him in a tie for eleventh place among all Major League batters. Instead, his overall wOBA of .352 puts him in 45th place. It is still a productive number and puts him alongside guys like Torii Hunter, Jonathan Lucroy and Colby Rasmus. He really seems to be a better hitter than all three of those guys. But his wOBA at home is .316. That is q...

Seattle Mariners: A Decade Of Hits And Misses In The 1st Round

Although most major league teams will be calling up minor leaguers on their 40-man rosters in September, the Seattle Mariners have had to open their presents a little bit early this year, with two of their top pre-season prospects making the big club earlier this summer.  Those two, middle infielder Nick Franklin and catcher Mike Zunino, were two of the team’s first round picks...

Franklin Gutierrez back with Mariners, Aaron Harang DFA

Franklin Gutierrez has played all of 18 games with the Mariners this season and none within the past two months. But tonight he’s back in the starting lineup and batting third as the Mariners open a series against the Texas Rangers. To clear a roster spot the Mariners designated Aaron Harang for assignment. What does this mean as far as who will take Harang’s place in the rotation...

Mariners' Mike Zunino nears end of recovery period

Seattle catcher Mike Zunino cleared another hurdle in his comeback from injury, engaging in an encouraging round of batting practice before Saturday's game. The third overall pick in the 2012 draft, Zunino rocketed up the Mariners system before making his big league debut on June 11th. After posting a .242/.315/.343 in 29 games, the 22-year old broke his hamate bone in his left...

Mariners announce their AFL selections

Although one of their top prospects won't make it due to injury, the Seattle Mariners are still sending a very interesting group to participate in the Arizona Fall League this season. Details on the seven prospects inside.

Taijuan Walker to debut Friday

King Felix was bombed in three-plus innings today, forcing the M's to go to long man Brandon Maurer in early relief. That move all but guaranteed the expectation that someone not on the big league roster now – most likely Taijuan Walker – would make the start for Seattle on Friday. Since confirmed by the M's, we examine Walker’s body of work this season and tell you what to expect.

Looking Ahead: Rangers vs. Mariners

Rebound Series Well, the Seattle Mariners didn’t exactly meet my expectations for their series against the Los Angeles Angels. In fact, they almost did the complete opposite. Absolutely outmatched at the plate by Los Angeles’ starters, the Mariners couldn’t generate any offensive momentum and saw themselves be embarrassingly swept  by the Halos. Now Seattle must try and rebound...

Mariners' Farquar balks in go-ahead run in 10th

Danny Farquar balked in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning, and that wasn't even his biggest error of the night. In Farquar's mind, the greater gaffe was allowing Ian Kinsler to steal third with one out. Without the steal, the balk wouldn't have sent him home to score the tiebreaking that handed the Texas Rangers a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night...

Ex-MLB'er Balentien Chases Japan HR Record

"Oh" My!You might remember Wladimir Balentien when he played for the Seattle Mariners. He was an OK hitter—in parts of three seasons in 'The Show' hitting a grand total of 15 HRs. Now, as a member of the Toykyo Yakult Swallows of the Nippon Professional Baseball League, he has collected 51 dingers (as of today) and is four bombs shy of tying the all-time Japanese...

Mariners drop 6th straight at home, lose 12-4

Rangers 12, Mariners 4. With AP Photos. Seattle manager Eric Wedge believes there is plenty of time to find some positives as the season approaches the final month. For the Mariners to find those, though, they will have to rebound from the worst homestand in team history. Seattle completed its first winless homestand of more than four games Wednesday, losing to the Texas Rangers...

Martin, Rangers rough up Hernandez, Mariners

SEATTLE (AP) -- Leonys Martin homered and drove in a career-high four runs as the Texas Rangers roughed up Felix Hernandez and romped past the Seattle Mariners 12-4 Thursday. The AL West-leading Rangers tagged Hernandez (12-8) for nine runs and 11 hits in three-plus innings. The former AL Cy Young winner's ERA climbed from 2.63 to 2.97. Martin Perez (8-3) limited the Mariners...

Rangers beat Mariners on balk in 10th inning

SEATTLE (AP) -- Ian Kinsler scored the go-ahead run on Danny Farquar's balk in the 10th inning, handing the Texas Rangers a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. Kinsler started the winning rally with one-out single against Farquar (0-2) for his fourth hit. Kinsler advanced on Adrian Beltre's single, and then swiped third. After A.J. Pierzynski fouled out to...
