The Astros scored twelve runs in blank of Dodgers on Sunday, salvaging a win in the short three-game home stand. Houston's record is now only 6-10, but with the scoring outburst they have now out scored their opponents by ten runs. Until Sunday they were doing most of it without the benefit of the long ball. Carlos Lee's two run homer in the first inning was the first Houston home run in a week. During that period they had lost two of three in Miami and three of four in Washington. Then they lost the first two to the Dodgers at Minute Maid Park. Most of those losses were by no more than three runs. Only one, in fact, Saturday's 5-1 lost to the Dodgers, was by more than three. Had the Astros had anyone who could put the ball out of the park certainly some of those losses would have gone into the win column. The pitching has been good enough. Wandy Rodriguez has been outstanding with an earned run average under 1.50 but only a 1-2 record. But Sunday EVERYTHING worked. Rodriguez did not allow a run. Lee and Jordan Schafer both homered. Schafer's blow was his first career grand slam. After just those two hits the Astros led 6-0. What a difference the long ball can make. Dodger shoddy fielding didn't hurt. Coming into the game L.A. was ranked second defensively in the National League. Three errors will change that. The Astros other big win this year was the wrap up game in Washington last Thursday. They rolled to an 11-4 victory. That one was a little harder since they needed more hits since none of them were home runs. It is off to Milwaukee now for a three game series with the Brewers. Astro fans hope the team doesn't save its best for laston getaway day. So far the Astros have outscored their foes 27-9 when preparing to get on a plane. They have won two of the three.
