Cincinnati Reds starter Homer Bailey no hit the Pirates on Friday night in the Reds 1-0 victory. It was the Reds first no-hitter since Tom Browning's perfect game in 1988, and it was the first time that the Pirates have been no hit since 1971. Bailey threw 115 pitches in the win (74 strikes), walking one and striking out nine Pirates. The loss for the Pirates sends their record to 76-81, ensuring that they once again won't finish with a winning record, a streak that is now 20 seasons long. After where the Pirates stood at the end of July, I don't think anyone would have imagined that. Bailey's no-hitter was the seventh of the 2012 season, the most in a year since seven in the 1990 season. [follow]

Congratulations to Homer Bailey and the Cincinnati Reds, who defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0.  The Pirates secured their 20th season without a winning record by banging out a total of zero hits. Zero. The Pirates were 60-44 on August 1st. Today, the Bucs are 76-81, hitless, and an organization that must be paying for the sins of a Pittsburgh Steeler franchise that...

Bailey Fires No-Hitter

The Cincinnati rotation has gotten the job done all season. The quintet has provided all but one of the Reds starts with only five games remaining this year. The best outing of the bunch happened last night when Homer Bailey fired the fifteenth no-hitter in franchise history. Their 1-0 win at Pittsburgh leaves them only a half game behind Washington for the best record in the majors.
