Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost believes Eric Hosmer will hit third in the batting order most of his career.

Hosmer, however, was failing in that slot this season -- a .165 batting average with two home runs and 12 RBI in 137 plate-appearances.

Last week, Yost decided it was time to drop Hosmer down in the batting order. Hosmer first moved to sixth for two games, then landed in eighth for each of the past three games.

"I'm just trying to put him in a position where the weight of the world is not on his shoulders hitting in the three spot," Yost said.

It seems to be working. Hosmer went 2-for-5, scored two runs and stole a base Monday night in the Royals' 6-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

Hosmer is 8-for-15 (.533) batting eighth this season. He has also put together a five-game hitting streak, going 8-for-19 (.421), since being dropped from the third slot.

"He'll gather it back," Yost said. "There's no doubt this guy is going to be an All-Star caliber player. We just have to get him through all this. But it got to the point, we needed to do it (move him down from the third slot)."
