The great news for manager Ron Washington is he has depth in the outfield. The bad news is that means sitting someone every night that could be in the lineup. The last three games, the odd man out has been Nelson Cruz. Why? Well, Andruw Jones has been swinging the bat well and had three homers on Wednesday, so you can't take him out of the lineup Thursday, can you? David Murphy hit .296 in June, one of the few Rangers hitters that did anything of note in the month, and hasn't slowed down in July, batting .409 so far. He certainly needs to be in against right-handers. Marlon Byrd gives you a veteran presence and a player who can bat in various spots in the lineup. And, of course, Josh Hamilton has to play every day. What complicates it more is that Jones is mainly a DH. With his knees, the Rangers are more apt to let the other outfielders play the field. So that doesn't leave much room for a guy like Nelson Cruz to squeeze in, does it? And Cruz has 20 homers and 50 RBI...
