Without a wimper and without a fight the Yankee Empire as we know it may have fallen for good. Thursday evening the Detroit Tigers completed the four game sweep of the once feared Yankees after an 8-1 victory from Comerica. Park. With their backs against the wall, CC Sabathia was anything but impressive when it mattered going only 3.2 innings allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits all with 3 strikeouts. His daytime struggles also continued as Sabathia carried a 4.00 ERA in nine day starts this season. But it wasn’t only Sabathia, the Yankees offense still never got going in the series as Tigers pitching totally shut them down. With Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson both out of the starting lineup, Tigers starter Max Scherzer mowed down Yankee after Yankee accumulating 10 strikeouts, 1 run and 2 hits in 5.2 innings of work. And when Tigers manager Jim Leyland turned things over to the bullpen, Drew Smyly, Octavio Dotel and Phil Coke combined for zero hits, one walk and 2 strikeouts. New York didn’t lead in one game during the series. Then as the Yankees offense continued to be stuck in park, the Tigers bats finally woke up as Delmon Young, Avisail Garcia, Miguel Cabrera, Jhonny Peralta and Austin Jackson each combined for at least one RBI. This included a two-run home run from Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera and two home runs off the bat of Jhonny Peralta. Delmon Young was also named the ALCS MVP as his six RBIs in the series matched the total run output of the Yankees. Detroit also became the first team in MLB history to defeat the Yankees in three straight postseasons (2006 ALDS, 2011 ALDS, 2012 ALCS). The Yankees now enter an offseason with plenty of questions surrounding their team while the Tigers move on and await their next opponent, the Giants or Cardinals… The Tigers now become the first team in MLB history to defeat the Yankees in four straight
