Found February 03, 2012 on Mets Fever: Yardbarker Blogger Network
With spring training only weeks away, this is usually the time of year when baseball fans are given the opportunity to dream about the season to come. An off season full of additions and subtractions have primed their teams for a run at the pennant. At the very least, its baseball and anything can happen. That is unless, at least from my perspective, your a Mets fan headed into 2012.Truth be told, the franchise has never recovered from the September 2007 collapse that cost the Mets the division and a trip to the playoffs. Since that time, on the field problems have been compounded exponentially by off the field problems that threaten the very existence of the club as we know it. The result..an ownership group likely on its way out, a team poorly equipped for the 162 game season ahead, and a fan base which finds itself in a very dark place right now.So, what does all this mean for the upcoming season? Unfortunately, I think it means more of the same. There have been no motions...

According to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, billionaire investment manager Steve Cohen, who  is set to become one of the $20 million minority investors in the New York Mets. The deal would not preclude Cohen from pursuing the Dodgers, according to two people familiar with the transaction but not authorized to discuss it. Shakin speculates that Cohen’s motivation in...

New York Mets Likely to Assign Lead Off Duties to Andres Torres

As we gear up for Spring Training and the promise of real baseball, the New York Mets are surprisingly set throughout their 25-man roster.  There are plenty of questions surrounding the organization, but on the field the New York Mets have most of their rotation set and they have a very good idea of who will be filling out the lineup on Opening Day.  One of the final decisions...

Jon Stewart takes jab at Mets during Moneyball interview

We’re big Jon Stewart fans here at The Legend. Actually, let me not speak for the rest of the editorial staff. I am a big Jon Stewart fan. And Stewart  shares as least one thing with Cecilio’s Scribe. He’s a fan of the New York Mets. So, we’re both sorry bastards in that regard. Fortunately for Stewart, he has a national platform to playfully and brilliantly...

How Optimistic (or Pessimistic) Should New York Mets Fans Be Heading Into 2012?

Over at Metsblog.com there have been a couple of discussions about what is expected of the New York Mets this season.  On the pessimistic side, a scout explained why he doesn’t see the New York Mets cracking 70 wins this season.  On the optimistic side, a fan asks if the same squad can manage 85 wins if a few things break right.  I am definitely closer to the pessimistic...

Mets Jambalinka: Jason Bay, Wilmer Flores and Daniel Murphy

The big news surrounding the Mets has been the announcement that SNY is going to purchase a bunch of the shares that the Wilpons are offering in the team as a way to raise money. Some see this as nothing more than rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. But is there anything wrong about taking money from a profitable venture and using it to support a struggling one in your financial...

LHBs with connection to the front office

I know for some this is a repetitive topic, but let's face there is absolutely nothing to talk about in regard to the Mets. It's amazing how little they done and how long it's been, the last signing was Ronny Cedano on January 12th. They haven't even signed anyone to a minor league deal with an invitee to camp, Tuiasosopo will go straight to minor league camp....

It’s Gonne Be A Banner Day On May 27

One of the mainstays of a Mets’ summer will be returning this year, the 50th anniversary of the franchise. Banner Day will return May 27 to give you an opportunity to express your affection for your favorite players and memories, and yes, also a chance to editorialize on the direction of the team. Undoubtedly, there will be some censorship involved. With the way things have been...

Daniel Murphy: Spark plug

Well it’s suddenly February and that big football game is only a few days away. And you know what my favorite part of the Super Bowl is? No, the thought of seeing Tom Brady miserable, or seeing what kind of weird/creepy/funny commercial ETrade has in store for us. No, it’s more of the fact that as soon as the game is over, it’s baseball time. Pitchers and catchers are due...

Mets Cut Ties WIth Reyes, Jose Cuts Hair With Marlins: Just Doesn't Seem Right

Last night the much awaited hair cutting ceremony of former Mets SS Jose Reyes took place. I can't describe how much it pains me to scribble "former."As anyone with a pulse knows, I have been sick to my stomach since it was obvious the Mets had absolutely zero interest in re-signing Reyes, let alone his eventual signing with the dreaded Marlins. I also firmly believe...

What Are You Watching For The Most During Spring Training?

With Spring Training right around the corner it’s time to start to get into the baseball spirit. Even though it appears we are not going to be contending for a title this season, there is still plenty to be excited about.  There is always the outside chance that we make it interesting and contend for the second wild card spot.  For that to potentially happen things need...

The 34-year-old Fossum last pitched in the majors in 2009 with the New York Mets and spent last season with the Mets' Triple-A team at Buffalo.
