The Red Sox had some troubles against the White Sox in Chicago in May. The Red Sox dropped the first two games before salvaging the final game of the series.
Jon Lester lost his first game of the season after giving up 5 runs in the first 2 innings, which the Sox were obviously unable to rebound from.
There was not much action at the plate in the second game, as the White Sox took that one 3-1, and the two teams combined for 11 hits.
Finally, the Red Sox were able to put a bunch of singles together and walk 8 times to beat the White Sox 6-2 in game 3. The White Sox were slightly better at that time.
Laser Show: Shane Victorino & Jacoby Ellsbury
Shane Victorino is 17 for his last 39 (.436), with 5 homers and 13 RBI over that time. He was huge in the Baltimore series ( .545, 3 HR, 9 RBI), especially in game 1 (2 HR, 7 RBI). He is on one hell of a hot streak.
Jacoby Ellsbury is not on a streak like Victorino, but his last 3 games were very impressive. Ells went 7-for-12 against the birds, with 3 stolen bases. You have to love what he is doing at the plate and on the bases right now. $$$
Pitch Around: Adam Dunn...I guess
He obviously strikes out A LOT, and his average is exactly where it always is. He is still a threat to hit homers with his 30 this season, but he is also an easy out. Just don't give him something near the strike zone and he'll swing and miss.
Don't Fall Behind: Hector Santiago
Santiago is pitching well as of late and can get into a good rhythm and shut good offenses down. Don't let his losing record fool you, he pitches for the White Sox, so a losing record is a given, no matter how good you are.
How we see it goin' down
Chicago has been winning a lot lately. They took 3-of-4 from the Twins, swept the Royals, 2-of-3 from the Rangers, and 2-of-3 from Houston. The Rangers series win is the most impressive and concerning. Even though they have a terrible record, they are putting together one impressive string of series wins.
I was initially thinking the Red Sox would sweep, then I thought they would take 2. Now, I am back to a Red Sox sweep of the other Sox and I feel good about it.

In Ryan Dempster’s last start, he let his pitching do the talking for him and it landed him a five-game suspension, and possibly cost him a win.
On Friday night, Dempster let the pitching do the talking for him again, only this time out, the right-hander battled to a victory and no benches cleared.
In Dempster’s start against the Yankees, he attempted to take matters into his...
(AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Nathan Denette)To paraphrase the Lloyd Bridges character in the movie 'Airplane!', Ryan Dempster couldn't have picked a worse time to pitch poorly. As CSNNE.com's Sean McAdam points out, Dempster has been in a funk since his July 11th start against Seattle. Now that Clay Buchholz is set to return in about 10 days—and with a bunch of...
Ryan Dempster had plenty of time to rest up before Friday’s game against the White Sox.
The right-hander had 12 days off after he was suspended five games by MLB for hitting Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez with a pitch earlier in the month. The Red Sox pushed Dempster’s next start back even farther, and the rest seems to have done him some good.
Dempster pitched 6 1/3 innings...
Don’t get Jake Peavy wrong. He’s not trying to show anyone up or anything like that.
Red Sox fans are learning quickly that Peavy is an emotional guy when he pitches. It’s common to see the right-hander yell at himself on the mound, particularly when he makes a mistake, and it’s a mean streak that has accompanied the veteran throughout his entire baseball career.
Ryan Dempster returned from his MLB-enforced hiatus – courtesy of a five-game suspension after hitting Alex Rodriguez with a pitch on Aug. 18 – to earn the win as the Red Sox beat the White Sox 4-3 Friday night in the first of their three-game series at Fenway Park.
Dempster kept the White Sox hitless until the fifth inning when Paul Konerko led off with a double. But after...
Hector Santiago had a full workload with 101 pitches. His problem was that he threw them all in 3 2-3 innings.
The left-hander kept missing the plate and Boston's patient hitters kept laying off his pitches on their way to a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.
''He had a very high pitch count early in the game. They've done it to a lot of teams,...
Jake Peavy's known for studying hitters. It certainly gave him an edge against his former teammates.
Peavy pitched seven strong innings, Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and the Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox 7-2 on Saturday night for their sixth win in seven games.
Acquired in a three-team, seven-player deal July 30 that sent infielder Jose Iglesias to Detroit, Peavy...
While the Red Sox weren’t able to complete a sweep of the Orioles on Thursday night, they have consistently found a way to win series and they’ll look to continue that trend as they open a three-game set with the White Sox on Friday.
The White Sox end the month of August sporting the second-worst record in the American League, but they have been hot as of late. The South Siders...
BOSTON — The Red Sox’ pitching has been working like clockwork. It’s a good problem to have when it means consistently shutting down the opposition.
Jake Peavy provided yet another solid start for the Red Sox on Saturday. He lasted seven innings while giving up two runs on five hits as Boston rolled to a 7-2 victory over the White Sox. The Red Sox have now given up three runs...
Does this look like a man who would intentionally throw a baseball at another human?
Fresh off his suspension for doing what every pitcher worth his own salt wants to do, Ryan Dempster returns to pitch at Fenway. Let’s get something straight: this is a bad White Sox team. The Charlotte Observer can call them “the surging Chicago White Sox” all they want but the fact remains...
Jake Peavy got the better of his former team as the Red Sox beat the White Sox 7-2 Saturday night at Fenway Park for the second straight game.
Peavy went seven innings giving up two runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 3.91 improving his record to 11-5. Since being acquired in a three-team deal at the trading deadline Peavy is 3-1 with the Red...
Today, on the first day of September, the Red Sox are in a good place. Four and a half games up in the East. Best record in the American League, third best in all of baseball. An enviable starting pitching staff made even stronger with the addition of Gentleman Jake Peavy. And, of course, Jenny Dell.
But now comes the home stretch. Wicked September. Over the next 30 says, the Red...
Jake Peavy will be facing some familiar faces on Saturday night.
After being dealt to the Red Sox in a three-team trade on July 30, the right-hander went from a team that was in the basement of the AL Central to one that was atop the AL East, and looking to go far into the postseason.
Peavy spent five seasons with Chicago, and he will be making his first career start against his...
