According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Padres have made Orlando Hudson “very available this offseason.” However, while the Omar Minaya administration had interest in Hudson, according to Sherman, the new administration does not.
Michael Baron (Posted on Dec. 1, 2011): I’ve always liked Hudson and he’s stated a desire to play for the Mets over the years. But his average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and durability have declined in each of the last three seasons, and given his age I would only expect that trend to continue. The point is, the Mets might be able to get an equal, if not better overall performance from Daniel Murphy than they would otherwise get from Hudson for $5 million or so less.
Hudson, who will be 34 in December, signed a two year, $11.5 million contract with the Padres last December. The Padres hold an $8 million club option on Hudson with a $2 million buyout. He hit .246 with a .329 on-base percentage with seven home runs and ...
