Your browser does not support iframes.San Francisco Giants right fielder Hunter Pence was accidentally blocked on his attempt to catch a foul fly ball near the bullpen by an Oakland police officer who couldn't get out of the way.In the bottom of the fourth, A's batter Stephen Vogt hit a fly ball towards the Giants bullpen in foul territory near right field. The Oakland cop, who was providing security for the bullpen, was apparently trying to get out of the way, but he ended up running towards the ball. Meanwhile, Pence had a bead on it, but just as it looked like he was going to catch it, he ran into the cop and the ball fell on the bullpen bench. Given the rivalry between the A's and Giants, it doesn't look good that the officer involved in the play is from Oakland. However, it doesn't appear that there was any malicious intent on his part. The A's ballboy positioned near the Giants bullpen had some good advice for the cop: Next time, run AWAY from the ball.Video via MLB. This post appeared first on Holdout Sports. Oakland Athletics fueled by baseball’s best starting rotation

Already armed with one of the American League’s best starting rotations, the Oakland Athletics dramatically improved their chances for a deep run in the playoffs on Saturday when they shipped a trio of promising young prospects to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for starting pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel. In a single transaction, Oakland took arguably the top two starting...

Samardzija Trade Increases Pressure on Billy Beane’s ‘Moneyball’ A’s to Cash In and ‘Win Now’

It was only a matter of time before former Cubs P Jeff Samardzija was to be dealt. Having recently refused to sign a contract extension with the Cubs, his days in the Windy City were numbered. All that was in question was his destination. Unexpectedly, the move happened well before July 31—on Friday night, to be exact—as the Oakland Athletics swooped in and nabbed both Samardzija...

Week 15 Preview: San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland Athletics The battle of the Bay area resumes with San Francisco crossing the Bay Bridge and taking the quick trip to Oakland to take on the Athletics in the first two games with Oakland returning the favor on Wednesday in a unique scheduling twist that has become the norm in this series. Jeff Samardzija ruled ineligible for All-Star Game due to trade

Hey now, Jeff Samardzija’s an All-Star. But he can’t get his game on and go play. And yes, I really am using this scenario as an excuse to open a blog post with Smash Mouth lyrics, because I’m dropping the gauntlet on the rest of the blogosphere’s lack of awesome writing skills. C’mon, internet. I dare you to try and up the ante with some Sugar Ray or something. Anyway...

Jeff Samardzija Will Wear NL Jersey in the AL Dugout at the All-Star Game

Recently traded pitcher Jeff Samardzija will be forced to wear an NL jersey at the All-Star Game next week. After being dealt from the Cubs to the A’s one day before all-star rosters were announced, the dominating pitcher was left in a pickle. After receiving hideous run-support with the Cubbies (Samardzija had zero wins in his first ten starts despite a microscopic 1.46 ERA),...

Giants News: Santiago Casilla named closer after third save

The San Francisco Giants have had bullpen problems, among the other problems in their month-long skid. It started with the apparent sudden mortality of long-time closer Sergio Romo. The World Series hero blew three saves in the month of June and was removed from the role at the end of the month. Manager Bruce Bochy then declared that the Giants were going with a "closer by...

Oakland Athletics: Billy Beane’s Approach

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports Something strange is happening. Billy Beane is going against traditional sabermetric dogma by trying to win the championship that has eluded him and his franchise since he took over in the late 90s. Over the weekend, Beane and his team traded three top prospects to the Chicago Cubs for starting pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel. Beane has been...

A’s fan has a helluva time trying to spell Jeff Samardzija’s name, gives up (video)

The Oakland Athletics bolstered the team’s starting rotation tremendously over the weekend by acquiring right-hander Jeff Samardzija from the Chicago Cubs in a move announced on Saturday. Along with Samardzija, the A’s received Jason Hammel in exchange for 2012 first-round pick Addison Russell, 2013 first-round pick Billy McKinney, pitcher Dan Straily and a player to […] The...

Tough Inning Gets Bumgarner In Giants’ 6-1 Loss

It was a game of small ball that put six runs on the board, but the Giants were once again on the wrong end of the stick as they dropped their second game to the Oakland Athletics, falling 6-1 on Tuesday night. Madison Bumgarner started strong, sitting down six straight Athletics, but trouble arose in the third inning, as a mixup in communication between Joe Panik and Hunter Pence...

Chavez pitches A's to 5-0 win over Giants

An easy takeaway from the Battle of the Bay opener might be that the A's and Giants are going in opposite directions. The A's are rolling through just about everyone right now, except for the Tigers. Since Detroit swept Oakland last week, the A's have won five in a row and have surrendered just four runs in the process - zero on Monday night at the Coliseum in a 5-0...

MLB claims Jeff Samardzija ‘ineligible’ to pitch in MLB All-Star Game (ASG); Samardzija keeps his first All-Star Game berth

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija would have preferred both of the before-mentioned scenarios but...
