Now that it's official, John Maine is on the DL and the rest of his season is in jeopardy, the Mets need to find another starter. Brian Stokes can spot start and I know alot of people will be clamouring for Jon Niese or Bobby Parnell, but I'd go with a more conservative approach, Claudio Vargas. John Maine's spot has approximately five starts left which means the team needs a tested professional to fill in for him. It's pushing it to ask any of the others to fill in for that long especially in a pennant race. Mike Pelfrey needs to skip a start because he's pushing way past the amount of innings he should pitch this year, I would use Brian Stokes for that start and then keep him as the longman. The 30 y/o right hander is a lifetime 46-40 with a 4.94 ERA. In his short stint with the Mets he started four games and appeared as a reliever in seven other games, which he had a 3-2 record with a 4.62 ERA.
