On Friday it was reported that the Mets along with three other teams were interested in Jeff Francis. I like Francis because he's a lefty and I believe he's better then his numbers indicated last year. Unconnected to the rumored market heating up, Fangraph did a piece on Francis basically saying despite solid peripherals he's going to need solid defense with an 85mph fastball.Rich Coutinho believes that if it isn't Francis the Mets will bring in someone so that the youngsters aren't rushed. Were not talking about an impact pitcher more of a journeyman or coming back from injury type of pitcher. Here is who is left on the starting pitcher market;Kyle Davies, Zack Duke, Jeff Francis, Jon Garland, Rich Harden, Livan Hernandez, Edwin Jackson,Scott Kazmir, Ross Ohlendorf, Roy Oswalt, Brad Penny, Branden Webb, Chris Young, Clay Hensley, Sergio Mitre

New York Mets Showing Interest In Starting Pitcher Jeff Francis
You can correct me if I’m wrong on this, but didn’t the New York Mets say that they were not adding any more pieces to the 25-man roster? If so, what is up with the report that they are interested in Jeff Francis? I suppose the team could sign him to a minor league deal, but why would Jeff Francis – coming off of a useful season with the Kansas City Royals ...

When Will The Alex Gordon Deal Get Done?
Alex Gordon really turned the corner in 2011 from potential bust to future All-Star, batting over .300, winning his first Gold Glove, and even earning some MVP votes. No doubt he is apart of the up and coming Kansas City Royals future. Both sides, Gordon and the Royals front office, are looking to get a deal done so he can be a part of that future but as of right now it doesn’...

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the New York Mets are among four teams “keeping tabs” on left handed starter Jeff Francis:

The Long and Short ”Stop” of It
The Kansas City Royals have been slightly active again this week. They have signed all of their arbitration eligible players except for Alex Gordon. It will be interesting to see if the Royals are able to sign to a long term contract. There have been rumors of this in the media, but only time will tell. This week, will start our look at the American League Central infielders...
Royals Stifle High-Scoring Kalamazoo Wings
Hoping to try and avoid a three-game losing slump, the Reading Royals headed into Friday night’s game against the goal-scoring juggernaut Kalamazoo Wings. It was the first time the two teams had met since the Wings swept the Royals in the second round of last year’s playoffs.
The Wings, who led the East with 136 goals and the first in the league on the power play, were...
Winter Baseball Fun: It’s In The Cards
I have been struggling to find something in the baseball world to keep my attention. Yes, the Kansas City Royals signed some contracts to avoid arbitration. What kind of contract Alex Gordon gets remains to be seen. However, I view this stuff like changing the oil in your car. It needs to be done, yet it won’t increase performance, and will only help delay an inevitable decline...
The low-pay, sort-of desperate minor-league deal
Last Friday, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN said the Mets, Reds, Blue Jays and Mariners have been “keeping tabs” on free-agent LHP Jeff Francis.
Matthew Cerrone: I’ve also heard the Twins, Cubs and at least two or three others teams are interested in Francis as well. In addition to Francis, teams are also looking at Kyle Davies, Zack Duke, Jon Garland, Rich Harden, Livan...
Breaking Good
Everyone expects improvement from the 2012 Kansas City Royals, but just how much improvement to expect is a point of debate. Will 4-5 players make “the leap” at the same time vaulting the Royals into 90+ win territory? Will this season be a springboard to 2013, around 81 wins and a lot of incremental individual improvement? While much of the answer may lie in the Royals clubhouse...
Quick Hits: Red Sox, Gordon, Francis, Montero, Braves
Friday night links..
It appears that talks between the Rockies and Red Sox regarding Marco Scutaro are dormant, but Rob Bradford of WEEI.com writes that Boston's possible motivation for a move involving Scutaro would be to free up payroll. The club has reportedly expressed interest in White Sox starter Gavin Floyd and free agent outfielder Cody Ross, but neither move...
