Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
Randy Wolf is treating his 2009 free agency like he had back to back Cy Young award seasons. In November, Wolf turned down a 3 year, $28.5 Million dollar contract from the Astros. It seems that Wolf is waiting for the iron to get hot, again. MLB.com is reporting that he has been in contact with Dodgers, Mets and other clubs.
The Mets are waiting for Oliver Perez and if they lose him then may pursue Wolf or Garland as a last resort. I think Garland who has better numbers in the past would be an ideal fit on the Mets roster. He might benefit from changing leagues and going to the NL.
If you look at Wolf's numbers they are not that great for the money he seeks.
Here is 2008 and Career numbers:
W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV SVO IP H R ER HR BB SO 2008 12 12 4.30 33 33 1 1 0 0 190.1 191 100 91 21 71 162 Career 90 78 4.26 245 241 12 8 0 0 1,468.0 1430 742 695 188 547 1227
Jon Garland 2008 and Career numbers:
W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV SVO IP H R ER HR BB SO 2008 14 8 4.90 32 32 1 0 0 0 196.2 237 116 107 23 59 90 Career 106 89 4.47 278 255 9 6 1 1 1,625.1 1719 886 807 205 532 851
Garland stats have declined since 2005 when he was 18-10 with a 3.50 ERA. He is not a strikeout pitcher, but he is a ground ball pitcher...He has pitched 200+ innings in the last three out of the last four seasons, last year was the only year where he fell short by 3.1 Innings.
