I know, I'm as surprised as you are. But it had to happen sooner or later just because of the law of averages. Maybe this is the jump start. Maybe not. But if you believe in snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, then surely you also believe in snatching a major league roster spot from the jaws of Las Vegas. Davis had two hits on Sunday night against the Braves, the last one being a huge two-run single with the game tied in the eighth which was the difference in ending the Mets five game losing streak in a 4-2 victory. Shaun Marcum's seven strong innings striking out 12 Braves in easily his best game as a Met made this huge Ike Davis moment possible. And it came just after Ike was given some friendly advice by his bosses: Ooh look, in the back pretending he has expertise in this situation ... it's Jeff Wilpon! "Can I hang out with you guys too? I was a professional ballplayer too you know! Seriously!" It would be hilarious if Ike was sent d...

Ok, Ike will (likely) be gone. So, what’s next?

It was a demoralizing scene if I ever saw one. In the bottom of the 8th inning in Friday night’s game vs. the Braves, Ike Davis struck out for the fourth time in the game while looking hopeless at the plate. Once again, Davis earned the dreaded “golden sombrero.” This was the third time this year Davis has earned that distinction. Last year, Davis accomplished that feat only...

Mets Hitting Coach Says Davis Needs To Work Out Slump In Majors

Updated by HoJo on 5/25 Hitting coach Count Dave Hudgens continues to voice his strong opinion that  the Mets need to stick with Ike Davis and not send him to Triple-A Las Vegas according to a report in the New York Post. “I don’t even want to think about it, to be honest with you,” the Mets hitting coach told The Post yesterday before Davis went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts...

Ike Davis Needs The Minor Leagues Now

The Mets said they need more time to get an understanding of what’s going on with Ike Davis in order to make a decision on what to do with him From Sandy Alderson on down these are professional baseball people with decades of experience. How can they not know Davis isn’t giving them anything; that he’s in a horrendous slump with shattered confidence? DAVIS: One of four walks...

Can Ike Achieve The Strikeout Cycle

I want Ike to one day attempt the Strikeout Cycle. So that would be a strikeout looking, swinging, check swing strikeout & the K 2-3 putout — Matthew Falkenbury (@dailystache) May 25, 2013 As Ike Davis continues to work his way from major part of the Mets rebuild to major pain in the ass for the team and fans, things are looking bleak for him. The hits are just not there...

The Ike Davis dilemma

In a media market such as New York, Ike Davis of the Mets has been the topic of much conversation. As such, I am not sure how much more I can add to the conversation. At the very least, there are no emotional ties to the situation for me, so perhaps I can look at it from a calmer, less passionate perspective. The starting point of the story is that Ike Davis has nearly duplicated...

Ike Davis Strikes Out Four Times and the Game is Not Over

New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis struck out four times on a total pitches against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field on Friday night. It is the third time that he has  accomplish the feat this season.  The game was suspended in the eighth-inning and will be resumed today.Davis may have an opportunity to whiff for the fifth time although manager Terry Collins may have a different...

Ike Davis Shows David Wright Just Who’s Clutch in Mets Unlikely Comeback Victory

TweetIt’s not often that the Mets come back to win a game. It’s not often they win a game period – and that’s mainly because no one on the team knows how to hit in clutch situations. But somehow, the planets aligned properly and the Mets were able to put together an old fashioned rally in the bottom of the eighth inning, no thanks to team Captain David Wright. Again. David...

Three Cuts: Mets snap Braves' winning streak at 8

When New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis -- who came into Sunday nights game batting .147 with 54 strikeouts in 149 at-bats -- is the hero, you know it was a tough night for the Braves. The Mets scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat the Braves 4-2, snapping Atlanta's winning streak at eight games. Here are Three Cuts from a mostly ugly night at Citi Field. 1. The Braves...

Mets still searching for identity after 48 games

The Mets had a .400 winning percentage in April and with four games remaining in May their winning percentage checks in at .390 for the month. It would be an easy conclusion to say that this is who the Mets are as a team yet the way they reached these marks is so different that it makes one wonder if that’s really the case at all. Do you recall the Mets winning games by scores...

Shorter Subway Series Reduces The Spotlight On Woeful Mets Season

Mike Kerwick of The Record, says it’s probably a good thing for the Mets that the Subway Series has been shortened from six games to four this season because it “brings glare” to how bad they are. This season has become a dark hour for Mets fans – darker, if possible, than any of the past four sub-.500 seasons. There’s Matt Harvey, an every-five-days beacon of hope. And...
