Ike Davis traveled to New York to have a follow-up related to his spring-training physical. Manager Terry Collins said Wednesday afternoon that Davis already had been cleared there to resume practicing Thursday in Port St. Lucie. Collins did not specify the nature of the issue. A team spokesman said it is unrelated to last year's ankle issue. "They wanted to do a double-check on some things," Collins said. "We got a report back that he can resume practice tomorrow and will be OK."

Mets Notes: Ike Is Cleared, Tejada Has Collins Concerned, Murphy Knocked Some Out Today

Earlier today, Mets first baseman Ike Davis was sent to New York to be examined by team doctors as a follow up to his physical, which the team said had nothing to do with his ankle. The Mets are now reporting that Davis has been cleared to resume workouts and is is expected to be back in camp tomorrow. ”They wanted to do a double-check on some things,” Collins said...

Mets' Ike ready to spring into action

The Mets sent Ike Davis to New York this week for a follow-up to his physical examination, but the first baseman was cleared to resume spring training workouts, according to a team spokesman. The spokesman said that the issue — which the Mets would not specify — was unrelated to the ankle injury that cost Davis most of last season.

Ike cleared to return

PORT ST. LUCIE —Ike Davis’ departure from spring training was short-lived. The Mets first baseman is scheduled to resume workouts today, after traveling to New York for what the team yesterday called a continuation of his physical. A team spokesman said Davis’ trip had nothing to do with the ankle...

Ike cleared after lung infection

First baseman Ike Davis returned to Mets camp on Thursday, unconcerned about the lung infection that doctors discovered on his impromptu trip to New York. He has been cleared to resume all activities.

It’s All About the Little Things

With spring training games just around the corner, many fans are wondering what to make of this team. Obviously, I think it would be too soon to just make judgements based on names. This isn’t a video game (As much as I love MLB The Show), so anything can happen. Whether you take injuries, breakout seasons or any other factors into account, we could get an excellent result...

Terry Collins On Setting Lineup, Is It Already Set For Opening Day?

Terry Collins has been very vocal early this Spring.  He is making decisions early for the starting lineup, and it appears that he wants his players to know where they stand, and use Spring Training to prepare themselves for their role come opening day. Today he said that he “expects Ike Davis to hit 4th and Bay to hit 5th in the lineup”. Davis is the most logical...

Collins Really Irked By Tejada’s Absence

Ruben Tejada seems to have overtaken Copter-gate as the lead story from Mets camp today. Here’s what’s coming in from the beat: Collins had proposed to Tejada to work out in Port St. Lucie in November with organization strength coach Jason (“Nitro”) Craig. Then, the manager suggested, Tejada could go home to Panama for the holidays and return to the Mets’ Florida...

Collins ever the optimist at Mets camp

Mets manager Terry Collins typically arrives at the team's Spring Training complex by 4:30 ET every morning, so that he can finish a 90-minute workout before the first players begin trickling in.

Mets expect P Santana to be ready for opener

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said he expects ace Johan Santana to be ready for opening day. Santana, who hasn't pitched in the majors since Sept. 2, 2010, threw off a mound for the second time this year as he attempts to come back from shoulder surgery. “In my mind right now, in my heart, he’ll be ready,” Collins said. “I don’t think there’s any question...

Mets skipper Collins: We'll be better than people expect

New York Mets manager Terry Collins anticipates Johan Santana will be ready for opening day. And despite drastic payroll cuts, he says the team will be a lot better than people think.

Collins had hoped for Tejada's early arrival

Mets manager Terry Collins is not pleased with shortstop Ruben Tejada's decision to wait until the reporting deadline to show up to camp. Tejada plans to obtain his travel papers Thursday in his native Panama, before arriving at Mets camp Saturday -- the deadline for position players to report.

Mets' Ruben Tejada delayed by visa problem, testing Terry Collins' patience

Mets experience first mini-controversy of camp

Mets' Tejada remains in Panama while trying to obtain visa

Terry Collins knows that Ruben Tejada is not late. He also knows that the young man who will replace Jose Reyes has already impressed with hustle and precocious baseball instincts. The manager even called himself “selfish” for wishing that Tejada was already in Port St. Lucie. But still, despite all those qualifications, Collins’ visceral desire remains: He wants Tejada in camp, now.

Here We Go Again

You know, it was ridiculous when it was being tossed around last season, and even without the hyper-critical masses it's ridiculous now. But here we are, the reason I hate spring training ... too big a deal being made out of somebody not showing up to camp early. This time, the "culprit" is Ruben Tejada. And the man partly responsible for turning molehill into mountain...
