Big freakin' shock. Yeah, the steroids thing happened while he was with Texas, and not with New York. And Rodriguez was probably off the juice while with the Yankees (A-Rod was a participant in the 2005 World Baseball Classic which held players to an even higher standard regarding the illegal use of performance-enhancing drugs, and not to mention that 'roids became regularly tested for in 2004).

But what A-Rod has brought to the table in New York since his first year in pinstripes is this: an inability to become a true Yankee.

Instead of the yang to Jeter's yin, he has turned the hot corner into the hot mess. The numbers in the regular season speak for themselves...he is the greatest hitter in the game. The numbers in the postseason don't. Failure after failure when it counts the most.

Perhaps the Yankees are in the same position as the Dallas Cowboys are in currently. While T.O. is in a career demise, he is regarded as a polarizing figure who can't stay away from negativity. Same can be said for Alex.

A rumored affair with Madonna, fueds with Torre and Jeter, postseason impotence, and now the steroid issue all but taints his career with the Yankees, and his legacy forever.

A-Rod was supposed to be the player to "clean up" the home run record from the enhanced Barry Bonds. Not happening.

He just doesn't get it. While some players like Jason Giambi and Andy Pettitte came clean, it was while the BALCO investigation was going on. And their admittance coincided with BALCO, yet it still allowed for public forgiveness. A-Rod, while not linked with the investigation, should have came out.

Instead, he did this.
