TEAMS: Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals
Not all moves are of the big impact variety, but they still can hold fantasy relevance nonetheless. Whether they have a chance to contribute to 12-team mixed leagues or maybe deeper formats, these three players are worth keeping tabs on.
Cody Ross: Signed by the Red Sox
Ross has been mixed league relevant from time-to-time over his career. He has some power and can swipe a base here or there. Last season, Ross dealt with injuries and it showed in his production. If healthy, and while playing home games in the hitter friendly Fenway Park, Ross should see a small spike in his home runs and doubles as his power is to the side of the Green Monster. However, Ross has proven that he is quite less effective against right-handed pitching over his career (.253/.313/.414, .161 ISO). Against left-handed pitching is where his power numbers start to thrive (.282/..349/.563, .282 ISO). In leagues where one could utilize Ross’s starts against lefties, he has considerable value. In most formats...

So long: Brad Lidge signs with the Nationals
The Phillies have lost yet another member of their 2008 championship team: Brad Lidge has signed with the Nationals. Lidge, who will be forever remembered for getting the final out in the World Series, signed a 1 year deal for around a million dollars with the Nationals. There was some talk that Lidge would return to the Phillies but ultimately the Nats offered him more money and...
Phillies Sign Juan Pierre to Minor League Deal
Juan Pierre. (MLB)The Phillies have inked speedy outfielder Juan Pierre to a minor-league contract.Last season, Pierre, 34, was still a serviceable player with the Chicago White Sox, although we know he is completely one-dimensional. He will give you slap hits and speed and not much else. Over 158 games, Pierre hit .279 in 711 plate appearances, however, his steals fell from 68 in...
Brad Lidge – Forever a Phillie
Brad Lidge, an integral part of the Philadelphia Phillies 2008 Championship season, signed a 1-year $1 million deal with the Washington Nationals today.
For me, Brad Lidge will always have a special place. He will walk with the late Tug McGraw, linked eternally as the only two Philadelphia Phillies’ pitchers on the mound at the exact moment a World Series was won. Hopefully...
Nationals agree to terms with RHP Lidge
The Washington Nationals agreed to terms on a one-year deal with closer Brad Lidge.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Lidge was limited to only 25 appearances last season with the Philadelphia Phillies due to arm and shoulder problems. He received a buyout of $1.5 million after the team opted not to exercise an option for $12.5 million.
Although he lost his closer...
Report: Nationals Sign Reliever Brad Lidge
The Washington Nationals have signed RHP Brad Lidge for the 2012 season, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. It is a one-year deal according to the Nationals PR Twitter account. The former Philadelphia Phillies closer was a free agent after a disappointing 2011 season, where he missed 97 games with a rotator cuff injury. He posted a 1.40 ERA, but had an inflated 1.500 WHIP...
Brad Lidge – Forever A Phillie
For me, Brad Lidge will always have a special place. He will walk with the late Tug McGraw, linked eternally as the only two Philadelphia Phillies’ pitchers on the mound at the exact moment a World Series was won. Hopefully there will be another very soon (Jonathan Papelbon), but for the moment, it is just Lidge and McGraw.
While Lidge may have struggled over the last 3 years...
January 25, 2012: The Cody Ross Era Begins!
Holy Buckets! After so many years of stone-faced JD Drew, can I just tell you how nice it will be to have a passionate player manning right field? Yay!
But can I just tell you how incredibly stupid I think it was for the Sox to trade Marco Scutaro, who would have made a measly $6 million dollars in 2012 to “free up payroll” Not only was he one of the most productive players...
Nationals Steal Brad Lidge
Earlier today, Brad Lidge and the Nationals agreed to a one year deal worth about $1 million dollars plus incentives. This is a very cheap deal, so the Nationals can’t really go wrong. Lidge, when he’s on, is as good a reliever as anyone and the Nationals got a year of that for a million bucks, chump change to a big league club.
Earlier this week, the Blue Jays signed...
