Or, to put it even more succinctly, When Nelson Freaking Figueroa pitches a 4 hit, no walk shutout against your ballclub, you ball club is, to put it nicely, absolutely terrible. Well friends, sorry no posts this weekend, but I've been sick with whatever virus from heck the kids thoughtfully brought home from skool. The greatest truth on earth is that the ONLY thing that kids LIKE to share are germs. That and the fact that the reason that we were stuck having to watch the same old suckulous veterans and not any of the kids, except for JR in a few games, is because Drayton instructed Clark to play the veterans, both home and away. He wanted the team to win as many games as possible. The Astros ended the year 74-88; this means that only 7 ML teams had worse records. This means that the Astros have the 8th overall pick next year. This means that the Astros will have to find someone who can be considered first round, like Giovanni Mier, who does not have Boras as an agent. This means forget signing the Justin Smoaks. As for the post-season, I don't have a dog in the fight except for hoping against hope that the stupid Yankees and Red Sox both get knocked out in the first round, in 3 games - all shutouts. No Ex-Stros to root for, except Adam Everett of the Tigers. I'm going to go through the season, discuss starting pitchers, the bullpen, position players in terms of runs created, outs made and runs driven in/opportunity.
