Cleveland Indians starter Fausto Carmona has been arrested in the Dominican Republic for identity fraud.

It's being reported that Carmona, whose real name is apparently Roberto Hernandez Heredia, was arrested after renewing his visa in the Dominican earlier today. It's unknown at this time whether or not Carmona has lied about his age in addition to his identity, but in the case of Leo Nunez earlier this winter (who lied about his identity and is now known as Juan Carlos Oviedo), he only lied about his identity and not his age.

Carmona's best season was in 2007 for the Indians, when he had a 3.06 ERA in 215 innings. It's all been downhill since then, and the 28 year old had a 5.25 ERA in 188 2/3 innings in 2011 for the Tribe. Carmona is scheduled to make $7 million in 2012 after an option was exercised on his contract after the season ended. He was expected to be Cleveland's fourth starter behind Ubaldo Jimenez, Justin Masterson, and veteran Derek Lowe, acquired this offseason from the Atlanta Braves.

UPDATE: It's not being reported that Carmona is 31, and not 28. Well then, that changes a lot...instead of a pitcher entering his prime, Cleveland has another guy exiting his prime. Uh oh.
