As the Indians were settling on which players would make the club out of spring training, one of the cuts that had to be made was OF Ezequiel Carrera. Carrera was designated for assignment and did not make it through the waiver process. He was claimed by the Philadelphia Phillies. Today the Indians returned the favor. “The Cleveland Indians have claimed OF EZEQUIEL CARRERA off waivers from Philadelphia. To make room on the club’s 40-man roster, 1B MIKE McDADE has been designated for assignment. Carrera, 25, has appeared in 13 games for the Phillies this season. He was in Major League camp with the Indians this spring (.279, 12-for-43, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 11 SB) before being designated for assignment on March 25 and claimed off waivers by Philadelphia on April 2.” Ezequiel is a career .250 in the big leagues. He is probably most fondly remembered for his game winning bunt way back in May of 2011. Those who choose to look deep between the lines might wonder if this has anything to do with Michael Bourn’s injury. [Related: Still no timetable for Bourn's return]
