The Cleveland Indians have designated starting pitcher Zach McAllister for assignment. The team announced the move on Friday afternoon prior to opening a weekend series with the Texas Rangers. The team recalled OF Tyler Holt in a corresponding move.

McAllister has been laboring since the end of April. He missed six weeks with a back injury prior to returning and continuing the struggles he started prior to a DL stint.
McAllister is 3-6 with a 5.91 ERA in 14 starts with the Indians this season.
The Indians made the move to designate McAllister with full intent on having him pass through waivers and land in Triple-A Columbus. If a team would happen to put a claim on McAllister, the Indians could remove him from waivers.
