A Cleveland Indians fan threw a partially-filled cup at Tampa Bay Rays left fielder David DeJesus in an inappropriate attempt to vent some frustration during Wednesday night's American League Wild Card playoff game at Progressive Field.
It happened in the bottom of the eighth inning with one out and the Rays holding a 3-0 lead. Indians batter Michael Brantley hit the foul ball down the left field line. DeJesus caught the ball within a foot or two of the stands, and the cup came out a second later.
Fortunately DeJesus was not hit by the cup or the substance inside. It's unclear whether the cup was filled with beer or another drink, although some are speculating that the substance was actually dip spit. Regardless of what it was, that just wasn't cool. Hopefully security removed the culprit from the stadium.
The Indians were unable to rally, so their season comes to an end as the Rays won the game 4-0 and advance to the Divisional Playoffs.
