Right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Cleveland Indians have agreed to a minor league contract.
Matsuzaka will have a chance to win a spot in Cleveland's starting rotation if he passes a physical. The club's pitchers and catchers reported to camp in Goodyear, Ariz. on Sunday, with physicals scheduled to take place Monday.
The 32-year-old has won 50 major league games since signing a $52 million, six-year contract with Boston as free agent in 2007. Dice-K is reuniting with Terry Francona, his manager for most of his time with the Red Sox.
Matsuzaka went 33-15 with a 3.72 ERA in 61 starts for Boston in 2007-08. However, he has been limited to 18 starts and 83 innings the last two seasons after right elbow surgery in 2011.
On Saturday, the Indians signed 42-year-old slugger Jason Giambi to a minor league deal.

Somethings are better left unsaid, but in today’s MLB everyone has to open their mouth.
The latest player to come forward and offer performance-enhancing drug (PED) tidbits was former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling.
While being interviewed on the Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio, Schilling stated a member of the Red Sox medical staff suggested that he try taking an illegal...
Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Bryce Brentz has shot himself in the leg. The minor league is expected to miss all of spring training because of the incident. He was going to be given a chance to play the spring out in the Major League camp.
According to Alex Speier of WEEI.com, Brentz was cleaning his gun when it accidentally went off. Brentz was hit by the stray bullet...
The Red Sox have invited 19 players to spring training.
Ben Cherington announced right-handed pitchers Pedro Beato, Chris Carpenter, Anthony Carter, Jose De La Torre and Terry Doyle, left-handed pitchers Chris Hernandez and Oscar Villarreal, infielders Xander Bogaerts, Jonathan Diaz, Mark Hamilton, Justin Henry, Deven Marrero, Lyle Overbay and Drew Sutton and outfielders Jackie Bradley...
Just when you think the Red Sox can't add any drama to the mix, Mother Nature intervenes.
Jacoby Ellsbury tweeted out on Sunday night some frightening news for Red Sox Nation to hear, but didn't seem all that concerned about it himself.
Our plane just got struck by lightning heading to Ft. Myers! #itsgoodluck
Hopefully, the Red Sox outfielder is right about that luck...
Carl Pavano, you've got company. Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Bryce Brentz won't be in major league camp with the team this spring because of an offseason injury he suffered. OK, that's completely normal, these things happen every so often. Except Brentz's injury isn't exactly run of the mill: he shot himself through his leg while cleaning his gun.
In the latest round of “he said / they said”, “he did it / no I didn’t”, Major League Baseball and the Boston Red Sox concluded an investigation into Curt Schillings comments earlier this week that the Red Sox organization encouraged him to take PED’s in 2008 while recovering from injury. Two sources close to these investigations have told ESPNBoston.com writer Gordon...
Just when we thought teams had learned their lessons about Native American imagery, the Cleveland Indians have put the above t-shirt for sale on their website. The shirt features an extremely stereotypical and somehow more offensive Chief Wahoo caricature. The logo in question was the team's primary logo from 1946-1950, so it's not as if it was some sort of integral part...
The Cleveland Indians have signed right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka
to a minor league contract, as reported by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Heyman adds that if Matsuzaka makes the team, he has an opportunity
to earn $4 million in 2013 through incentives. He’ll earn $1.5 million by
simply passing his physical and making the team, according to Paul Hoynes of
The Plain Dealer...
John Lackey has something to prove to Red Sox Nation.
Now, there’s definitely a chasm between fan perception of Lackey and what his teammates say. While fan opinion has largely turned against the big right-hander, his teammates are still behind him. Lackey says that he’s not necessarily worried about the image of himself to those outside the lines, but at the same time he still...
The Cleveland Indians have signed first baseman-designated hitter Jason Giambi to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The Indians announced the signing Saturday, six days ahead of the team's first full-squad workout.
The 42-year-old Giambi spent the past three-plus seasons filling a part-time role with the Rockies. The 2000 AL MVP was a mentor to...
