Please…enough.  I am just as big a fan of Harvey as the next Mets fan.  Believe me, I follow the numbers, I watch the games, I go to a handful of starts.  I know that this guy is more than lightning in a bottle – if anything, he’s a hurricane in a treasure chest…I think? Anyway, the point is, it’s simply embarrassing.  It is! By organizing ‘Harvey Day’ the organization is literally saying “if you are ACTUALLY going to spend money, come on out to the only game we think we could maybe win.” It’s giving up on every other pitcher in the rotation.  Did you all forget that Marcum was one of the only acquisitions made this off-season? Or how Niese had a career-high year last year, and save from a few bad starts this season, he has consistently kept the team in games? What about how Hefner is finally budding into a consistent middle rotation starter? And finally, Gee has been electric ever since he shaved that beard. Listen, Harvey is just as ‘Harvelous’ as the light-up display says, almost every single time he steps up to the rubber.  But by advertising every Matt Harvey start as a holiday, you do 3 things: You add to the already immense weight of the NY media attention and pressure You admit defeat before the game even starts, the next 4 games You take away from the real excitement of when Harvey pitches by commercializing the heck out of it and not letting him just do what it is he does so well You demoralize every other Met pitcher by saying outright that Harvey is better, so we’ll just count the days until he pitches again, and you’re practically just a place holder I love the “Harvey’s Better” chants.  Any team comes out to Flushing, feel the wrath of NY.  That’s fine.  New Yorkers – we’re jerks, and we know it.  But please, keep the “Harvey’s Better” chants for days when Harvey is matched up against Strasburg.  And keep from subliminally promoting that idea amongst the Mets as well.
