The Kansas City Royals were supposed to be a dark horse contender for the AL Central this season. Instead, the dark horse is already on its way to the glue factory now that the Royals have started off the season 3-13 and are mired in an 11-game losing streak. Looking to oust a manager a mere 16 games into the season seems awfully premature, but hey, if the screaming masses in Boston can already call for the head of Bobby V on a platter, why can't a small market club like KC do the same? The thing about it is that this isn't even about Yost as a manager himself. Sure, he has his foibles. His lineup construction is a bit questionable. He is over-reliant on Yuniesky Betancourt, who is actually having a good start to the season, but remains Yuniesky Betancourt nonetheless. His baserunners can't stop running into outs. His batters are grounding into double plays like it is going out of style. His assignment of bullpen roles is somewhat suspect. None of these are fire...

Royals fan spotted reading book

Sure, the Royals have stumbled out of the gate this season, but the least the team's fans could do while at the game is watch the game, especially from such a great seat.

Mendoza searching for confidence early in '12

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - To fully appreciate the concern that goes through Royals right-hander Luis Mendoza's mind these days, you have to go back to 2010. During April of that year, Mendoza seemingly was having his last chance at a big-league career. Boston, San Diego and Texas already had given up on him. And here he was with Kansas City, having earned a spot in a shaky Royals...

Kansas City Royals Lose 12th Game in a Row

Remember before last season when experts were all lauding the job the Kansas City Royals had done compiling the consensus No. 1 farm system in all of baseball? Apparently that doesn’t actually translate into wins on the field. So far in 2012, the Royals have shown themselves to be old-school bad. We’re talking 1890 Pittsburgh Alleghenys, 1899 Cleveland Spiders, 1962 New York...

Royals Promote Tommy Hottovy

KANSAS CITY, MO (April 25, 2012) — The Kansas City Royals selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Tommy Hottovy from Triple-A Omaha today and optioned right-handed pitcher Jeremy Jeffress to Omaha. With the selection of Hottovy, who is expected to be in uniform tonight (#46) in Cleveland, the Royals 40-man roster stands at 40.  In addition, the club returned outfielder Lorenzo...

OK, So Who Is Responsible For This?

The Kansas City Royals are off to a horriffic 3-12 start and fans are demanding some answers. It is not HIS fault Nobody saw this coming. While opinions of what these 2012 Kansas City Royals would be varied some, there was nobody who believed the Royals would be this bad. And we are still less than 10% into the season, starting the season by losing your first 10 home games is no...

Panic Time? Not yet.

So I've been away for a while from the site, but i'm back now and here to urge everyone not to push the panic button quite yet. Yes, the Royals have dropped 11 in a row and a franchise record 10 in a row at home. But let's be real here, did we expect them to win 90 games and contend for the playoffs? I certainly did not. My initial prediction was 77 wins, and I stand...

Royals slow start tough, but it could be worse

Could it be worse? Could anything top this disastrous start to the Royals' 2012 season? Well, possibly. My first year as a beat writer covering the Royals for The Kansas City Star was in 1992, the infamous season the Royals started 1-16. That was truly depressing, and maybe worse than this, considering that Kansas City fans hadn't become accustomed to losing yet. Brian...

Duffy to fans: 'This is a good team'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Royals left-hander has a quick message for any Royals fan ready to abandon ship: Don't do it. "You know, I'm a fan, too," Duffy told me. "I'm a fan of the Lakers, and they're struggling, and it's tough to be a fan of a team that's struggling. But I hope the fans hang with us a little longer because we will prove to you that...

Bo bikes, raises money for tornado victims

HENAGAR, Ala. - Heisman Trophy winner and former Kansas City Royals' All-Star, Bo Jackson and about 100 bicycle riders have started their five-day, 300-mile ride across Alabama to raise money for tornado relief in the state. A crowd of a couple of hundred people cheered Tuesday as Jackson led riders out of the tiny town of Henagar in the northeast part of the state. Celebrity...

Indians 4 Royals 3: Tribe Keeps Royals Sinking, Move Into First

As a baseball fans, you know there are those games in which your team should win but end up losing. Then there are the games that your team has no business winning, yet does anyways. Last night in front of a sparse crowd at Progressive Field, your Cleveland Indians pulled off the latter. How else can you explain the 4-3 victory in which the Tribe loaded the bases with nobody out...

Over-easy for Odorizzi in Naturals win

SPRINGDALE, AR – Jake Odorizzi set a new single-game franchise record punching out 11 batters as the Naturals snapped their four-game slide with a 5-0 win over the Springfield Cardinals Monday night in the opener of a four-game series at Arvest Ballpark. Odorizzi (2-1), in by far his most dominating Double-A outing since his mid-summer promotion last season, fanned 11 in seven...

Indians beat Royals 4-3

The Cleveland Indians were back in action Tuesday night and got back to their winning ways with a 4-3 win. Starting in the 1st inning with a Carlos Santana sac-fly. Derek Lowe almost made it stand up by cruising thru 6 innings while giving up 1 run on 8 hits, walked 1 and punched out 5. Lowe improves his record to 3-1, while the Indians are now 9-6. Shelley Duncan broke a 1-1 tie...

Chen, Latos earn the nod

Start 'Em Bruce Chen (TOR, @MIN) A baseball vagabond playing for his 10th franchise, Chen has been one of the few bright spots for 3-12 Kansas City. Through 18 innings on the young season, the de facto ace of the Royals rotation has 14 strikeouts, a 2.00 ERA and 0.83 WHIP. Toronto employs one of the premier lineups on the Junior Circuit, but the Twins shouldn't alarm...

Royals-Indians Preview

A series against the Kansas City Royals provided just what the Cleveland Indians needed to break out of a slow start to this season and get some momentum going for a successful road trip. When they return home, the Indians will try again to add to the Royals' misery. Cleveland will seek its eighth win in 10 games Tuesday night by continuing its recent mastery of the Royals...
