When Friday's cuts came and Elmer Dessens was still with the major league team, it seemed to be a matter of the coaching staff wanting to see more of a pitcher who spent most of the camp with Team Mexico in the WBC. After all Dessens has only pitched three scoreless innings in camp this spring, which doesn't seem to be a large enough sample to make a decision in either direction. But based on his track record it would be a long shot for him to make the team....Originally coming into camp I bet the team didn't expect to carry a traditional long reliever unless there were six starters and couldn't justify cutting one. But now that Ollie is Mr. Inconsistency again, Maine is struggling with his mechanics, and Pelfrey's working through a leg strain they maybe re-thinking the idea. The primary prospect for the position, Tim Redding will start the season on the DL and while Bobby Parnell has been a starter I'd like to see him build confidence by pitching one success...
