The most important thing that will happen today in sports has nothing to do with the Blackhawks or Duncan Keith's suspension or creepy sleazebag living Ped Dispenser Tony Bosch (hey that would make a good drawing) or anything to do with LBJ and the Heat. It's draft day.Theo Epstein, this is your day.Today is why we're all sitting around watching these couple summers of losing Cubs' baseball. You've got the 2nd draft pick.Right behind the Astros. And then something ridiculous like 39 more picks for everyone from college seniors to children in Korea. It is very important to me that you choose the correct guy(s) so the Cubs can keep their date with the World Series ummm...sometime really soon.Do I know who that guy that first guy is?No.Everybody says it's Mark Appel. But you're Theo Epstein, the guy with the braintrust, the scouts, the software...So figure it out, dude. You have literally all my faith.Go Cubs.

Starlin Castro still confident despite performance and being dropped to 7th

Yesterday Starlin Castro was dropped to 7th in the order because he had pretty much sucked for the last week. He's been pretty sucky at the plate all season for that matter. Despite that suckiness, Castro remains confident he'll get back on track. "It's a little bit tough in the beginning right now," Castro said. "I know it won't be like that for a...

Chicago Cubs closer options

Carlos Marmol (Photo Credit: Jerry Lai, US Presswire). The closer role for the Chicago Cubs has seemed to be one of life’s greatest mysteries early on in the 2013 season, and has been a question mark in recent years. A position that once was filled by the likes of Lee Smith, Bruce Sutter and Randy Myers is now a revolving door of inconsistency causing gray hairs for many Cubs fans...

Cubs Draftee Profile: Kris Bryant

Welp, that was a bit of a surprise. As had been predicted by a few folks (notably, Aisle424), the Cubs passed over one of the big college arms and selected Kris Bryant at #2 overall. I think we can be more confident in their candidness regarding their preference for position players over pitchers in general in the draft. Unfortunately, we can't know now whether they preferred...

Cubs beat Angels with clutch double in extra innings

Garza starting against the LA Angels on June 7, 2013 This year the Cubs are a team that has been a thorn in the side of many. In years past most fans loved it when the Cubs would come to town because it usually meant a win for their team. Nowadays, the Cubs are a better team all around. They have stronger pitching with pitchers who can give six to seven strong innings, and their batters...

Cubs Select 3B/OF Kris Bryant With Second Overall Pick in Draft

Cubs rumors: Chicago likely to sell

The Chicago Cubs are expected to be among the teams selling as the trade deadline approaches. This belief was backed yesterday by the comments of general manager Jed Hoyer, who hinted to Buster Olney of ESPN that players in the final year of their contract will be the most likely to be dealt. "If you are in a situation where you're not going to compete that year, and...

Cubs MLB Draft: first night synopsis

With the Chicago Cubs present being…well it’s present. And the Cubs past being, well the Cubs past, why not focus on the Cubs future? Wow, not one, but two Cubs draft articles? Yes, indeed we are doing just that. Wouldn’t you rather talk about the Cubs future than the Cubs present? The Cubs tonight made two picks in the opening rounds of the 2013 MLB Draft: third baseman Kris...

Yeah, I got nothin’…

In between the Cubs’ bullpen failing, the Cubs’ offense forgetting how to score when there are runners on with no outs, and Anthony Rizzo‘s less-than-enthusiastic Chevy commercial on WGN radio, I really don’t have much to say.  Tomorrow is an off day and I’m going to be bored without actual Cubs baseball to discuss.  Thank goodness for the MLB Draft which starts that...
