Spring training has come and gone. The Red Sox appear to be in a good place, but it’s now time to see just how far they’ve come since last season’s disaster. Boston added plenty of new faces in the offseason, both to the roster and on the coaching staff, so it’s hard to figure out what to expect in 2013. The Sox should be very much improved, but will their overhaul be enough to vault them into contention in the American League East? We’ll find that out before long, but in the meantime, there were some interesting developments throughout spring training. The emergence of Jackie Bradley Jr. probably stands out to most, but it’s hardly the only takeaway. The pitching staff performed admirably, a few other young faces turned heads, and some veterans look poised to bounce back from last season’s struggles in a big way. Spring training hardly dictates how a team will perform when the regular season kicks off, but some of what happened over the last month and a half will hold weight as we ...

Jackie Bradley Jr. Living Up to Top Billing As Early Returns Suggest Big League Call-Up Was Warranted (Video)

All spring training long, the conversation focused on whether Jackie Bradley Jr. should start the season with the Red Sox. Now that he is safely up in the big leagues, fans have begun to zero in on his performance — which has been solid thus far. While one game is never enough to paint a full picture of a player’s potential, the hype certainly appears to be warranted for Boston’s...

While nothing is official quite yet, Jackie Bradley Jr.‘s chances of making the Opening Day roster look good. Bradley will be traveling with the team to New York, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe. There has been some debate over whether Bradley should make the team or not. If Boston kept him off the opening day roster for 11 days, they would earn an extra year of arbitration...

Jackie Bradley Jr. has made the Red Sox’ opening day roster. Jackie Bradley Jr Makes Red Sox Roster

Opening Day is here! Baseball fans rejoice! There are people even more excited than fans about Opening Day. One of them is Jackie Bradley Jr. The rookie got the news this past weekend from Boston’s head coach John Farrell. Bradley is the first rookie to start on Opening Day for Boston since Shea Hillenbrand did it in 2001. Farrell told reporters about Bradley’s response when...

Ryan Sweeney’s Contract Not Purchased, Likely Paving Way for Jackie Bradley Jr. to Make Red Sox’ Roster

It looks like Jackie Bradley Jr. is going to break camp with the big league club. The Red Sox have not made an announcement regarding Bradley, but outfielder Ryan Sweeney has not been offered a major league contract, according to multiple reports. Sweeney figured to be competing with Bradley and Mike Carp for one of Boston’s two final roster spots. Sweeney has 24 hours to decide...

Jackie Bradley Jr Makes Team, Probably

Before tonight's game, the Red Sox had three players fighting for two spots. After the Red Sox's Mayor's Cup clinching win, the Red Sox beat writers basically live tweeted Ryan Sweeney being called into the office and cut from the team. While Sweeney will be left to find a new home for his patient approach, rock-solid glove, and five o'clock power; that essentially...

Jackie Bradley Jr. fever has spread beyond Red Sox Nation and onto the players themselves. Fresh Faces Help Set Tone for Red Sox, With ‘Great Expectations’ Possible After Opening Day Win (Video)

Don’t jump to any overzealous conclusions after just one game, but the Red Sox looked pretty good on Opening Day. Shane Victorino drove in three runs, Jose Iglesias had three (infield) hits and Jackie Bradley Jr. impressed early to help the Sox start the season on the right foot. With plenty of new faces in the fold, it was reassuring to see everyone working together on the victory...

Sox cut Sweeney, meaning Carp, Bradley Jr. unofficially make team

Following the team's 6-1 victory over the Twins in Fort Myers, outfielder Ryan Sweeney was told by manager John Farrell that he would not make the Red Sox' Opening Day roster. Because he has an opt-out clause in the minor league contract he signed in January, Sweeney's tenure with the Red Sox is likely over. Once he officially opts out sometime Friday or Saturday, the...

Mike Carp, Daniel Nava Make Red Sox Roster, But Jackie Bradley Jr. Hasn’t Been Told Status Yet

The Red Sox are inching closer to finalizing their Opening Day roster. The big question — whether Jackie Bradley Jr. will be taking the field in the Bronx on Monday — is still unanswered, but two other players were assured spots Friday morning. Manager John Farrell said the roster will likely be finalized Sunday. Mike Carp and Daniel Nava have been told they’ve made the roster...

The Jackie Bradley Decision With Some Context

Elise Amendola/AP Is the wait finally over? Has the 25-man Roster been set? It could be, as Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reported that outfielder Ryan Sweeney is the odd-man out. The Boston Red Sox had to make a decision on Sweeney by Thursday, when Sweeney could trigger an opt-out on his contract if he was not added to the 40-man roster. That could mean that Jackie...

Game 1: 3 stars of the game

In the first game of the season the Red Sox have already made it difficult for me to pick the top 3 stars of the game. This column will run after every game. The idea is to pick 3 players from either team, who put in the best performances, just like the 3 stars of the game for hockey. I will be keeping track of who earns the awards and with that will be able to accurately predict...
