A statue of Jackie Robinson outside of MCU Park in Coney Island, home of the Mets' NY-Penn League affiliate Brooklyn Cyclones, has been vandalized. According to a report from 1010 WINS in New York, the statue (which features Pee Wee Reese along with his Brooklyn Dodgers' teammate Robinson) was spray painted with swastikas and racial epithets, and team staffers noticed when they arrived to the ballpark on Wednesday morning. Brooklyn's News 12 tweeted out a picture of officers at the scene, along with the attempted clean-up job of the staff. The solution that was being used to remove the graffiti wasn't effective, and as a temporary solution, the hate speech was covered with duct tape and what appears to be a tarp or a trash bag. The Cyclones hosted the Connecticut Tigers at 11 AM today, and team officials needed to at least have some sort of temporary fix in place before fans began to arrive to the ballpark. Cyclones director of communications Billy Harner said that the team does have video surveillance of the area, and that they're working with the NYPD in order to catch the culprit.
