The Red Sox acquired outfielder/first baseman Conor Jackson from the Athletics just before Wednesday's midnight EST deadline to set postseason rosters. Jackson had a .658 OPS for Oakland this season, while spending most of his time as a right-handed-hitting reserve option at first base and the corner outfield spots. One source said Jackson will have a "super utility" role in Boston. Jackson's numbers against right-handers and left-handers this season have been roughly equivalent. Boston's starting outfield -- Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury and Josh Reddick -- is entirely left-handed. Oakland received Class AAA right-handed reliever Jason Rice from Boston in the deal.
