Red Sox Offer Arbitration to David Ortiz & Dan Wheeler

According to several media outlets, the Boston Red Sox have decided to offer arbitration to David Ortiz and Dan Wheeler. They had until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday night to do so. This means a few things for the Red Sox. With the new CBA done, Ortiz is still a Type A free agent. Red Sox Notes: Ortiz, Valentine, Wilson

Major League Baseball's new collective bargaining agreement will make it harder for teams to spend big on amateur talent, which leaves them looking for new ways to build a competitive advantage. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports suggests clubs should invest in scouting to ensure that the money they do spend impacts the Major League roster. Here's more from Morosi on the Boston...

Poll: Who Will Be The Next Red Sox Manager?

One wonders if, had the Red Sox offered Dale Sveum a managerial post before the Cubs did, if Sveum would've returned to Fenway Park rather than taking the Chicago job.  Though Boston's list of candidates seems to be gradually decreasing, the recent inclusion of Bobby Valentine into the mix has created questions about if Valentine really is "the sudden favorite"...

2011 MLB season in review: Boston Red Sox

Even though this team won 90 games, they will forever be remembered for the historic collapse in September. They went 7-20 in that month, choked away a playoff birth, and got their manger and general manger fired for lack of a better word. They dominated the New York Yankees beating them 12 of 18 times. However, a 6-12 record against the Tampa Bay Rays, and barely better than .500...

Jays Wanted Buchholz for Farrell

No wonder the talks with Toronto about bringing John Farrell back to Boston to become the new manager did not go anywhere. The Jays asking price was Clay Buchholz. There is no way the Red Sox would be willing to offer anything close to that deal so they were forced to look elsewhere.
