The Victory Formation:
As if a three game losing streak wasn’t enough to stir up some early season consternation among Braves fans, news broke late Monday night that Jason Heyward had been hospitalized and underwent an appendectomy. According to Fox Sports South, no further information was available from the team, but it’s likely that Heyward will have a 15 day trip to the DL at least. While the Braves are off to a hot 13-5 start, injuries have cropped up often in the young season. First baseman Freddie Freeman was due to make his return from the DL on Monday, but the game was snowed out. Additionally, reliever Luis Avilan suffered a hamstring injury on Thursday, and 2B Dan Uggla was removed from Sunday’s game due to a calf injury, although it doesn’t appear that either injury was serious. All of this has taken place while catcher Brian McCann is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, and Brandon Beachy is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. All that said, the Braves are indeed off to a hot start, and getting everyone healthy should make for quite the battle for the NL East with the Nationals. Here’s hoping that happens sooner rather than later.

Here is Jonathan Sanchez's line from this afternoon:
3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K
And here is Kris Medlen's line:
6 IP, 7 H, 3R, 1 BB, 6 K
That's not a line that would seem to bear well for the Pirates, but they found a way anyway today, mostly on the bullpen and on Russell Martin. The bullpen was excellent today. Combined, they went six shutout innings...
