According to the Denver Post, the Colorado Rockies will trade Luis Castillo to the Chicago Cubs in return for starting pitcher Jason Marquis.
The deal is expected to be finalized next week.
The Rockies will also get about $1 million, so they'll only be paying Marquis $8.75 million in 2009 before he becomes a free agent.
Marquis will join a rotation consisting of Aaron Cook, Jeff Francis, Ubaldo Jimenez and Jorge De La Rosa.
Is it me or does that rotation sound pretty terrible?
As for the Cubs, they made the move to free up some salary to fill other holes in their bullpen and bench.
The Mets and Cubs were reportedly talking about a Jason Marquis deal earlier this month, in what was supposed to be an even swap for Aaron Heilman.
I think we'll just hang on to J.J. Putz, thank you very much...
