Mets 20-year-old infield prospect Jefry Marte was 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI in the Arizona Fall League last night.
It was his second-straight game with a home run.
In 30 at bats this Fall, he’s batting an even .300 with 3 extra base hits, 1 stolen base, 10 RBI, 4 walks and 6 strike outs.
Toby Hyde: The big news with Marte, and I missed this last week, is that he has started playing first base. He committed 121 errors in 361 games at third in the minor leagues, though he was better in 2011 with just 28 in 131 games. The odd thing was that I thought he’d improved defensively this year. I saw him for only one game, but he made a slick spinning play after a short-hop pick that was at least as good, and probably better, than any I’d seen from him in 2010.
